Dizzy Japanese Cinema Talk 6. Can't Cry With Your Face (2025) Two high school students swap bodies and the story jumps to 15 years later where they haven't swapped back. Yoshine Kyoko & Takahashi Kaito are great here. It takes the body swap trope and makes it so reflective and intriguing.

I streamed and beat Panic Porcupine just now! What I downloaded as a funny Sonic knock-off turned out to be an incredibly fun and incredibly challenging platformer! Fun visuals, awesome music, and constant brilliant use of the gameplay mechanics. The developers did an amazing job with this game!

Hello! Project has been and is such an important part of my life… But I think I’m going through a bit of an existential crisis with it. I have to realize that the H!P I had initially discovered and fallen in love with is gone and just can’t come back. Things really do change.

Violent Night 2 has some of the minds from the Sonic movies behind it. Kristen Bell is in it. She wields a hammer! They’re just prepping us for her debut as Amy Rose

Dizzy Japanese Cinema Talk 5. The Happiness of the Katakuris (2001) This is a horror comedy... but it's also a musical! A bizarre family tries to run an inn and all of their guests die in hilariously strange ways. Definitely not a normal watch, but it will stay with you decades after seeing it.

Umeda Erika was the only ℃-ute member to receive a solo graduation. During the performance of Wasuretakunai Natsu, there was an iconic moment where Erika broke down in tears and couldn’t sing, but the other 5 members picked it up for her. I’ll never forget first seeing this. I cried so much too.

One of my favorite bits from the original Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoons was the Indestructo Steel Ball. As a kid I remember laughing out loud at this segment because it’s just so persistent. It’s still very funny! I love Looney Tunes and seriously can’t wait to watch Coyote vs. Acme!

Been listening to a lot of ℃-ute on spotify lately Just sort of lifts my spirits when I need it most!

No joke, but this is probably the film that got me interested in Japanese cinema as a whole!

Dizzy Japanese Cinema Talk 4. NANA (2005) An great film about love, friendship, and music. This manga adaptation perfectly condenses the story into 2 hours with the chemistry and journey of Nakashima Mika and Miyazaki Aoi feeling perfect. Incredible original music here! Like really, REALLY good!

I understand that what Miyamoto Karin has done, especially as a newbie to coding is impressive. There's no denying that the tech can do a lot. But I really hate the negative side effects this has and the hand waving towards AI's negative effects. The implications are scary.

Honestly, I feel like this might be one of ℃-ute’s most unknown songs. And it’s very good!

℃-ute gave a really fun performance of Yuuwaku no Kyuujitsu during their 2014 Spring concert. This is a really, really underrated song where every member shines, but I will say the contrast with these outfits is hilarious.

I played through A Short Hike on stream. This was my second time doing it for an audience and my third time playing through it. Even now, I can’t get through it without crying. It’s the most charming, coziest game out there. I love it so much!

A big thank you to everyone who joined me for my annual Sonic Frontiers playthrough stream. The game is still so special with so many amazing moments and ideas. Moving around as Sonic so simply a joy. I love Sonic Frontiers, I love the Sonic series, and I love the Sonic fandom! Today was so fun!

Dizzy Japanese Cinema Talk 3. GANTZ (2010) GANTZ is a fun manga adaptation with some stellar action and fun ideas. Ninomiya Kazunari and Matusyama Kenichi work so well together and (as a positive) it tones down the sexual bits of the manga. It has a solid direct sequel too. Awesome sci-fi stuff!

I always remember how difficult it was to defeat Goro in Mortal Kombat on my SEGA Genesis. But a good jump kick would-- wait... that's not the right Goro! If that fat cat is here then... OH NO! Mappy!

Dizzy Japanese Cinema Talk 2. Shoplifters (2018) Koreeda Hirokazu is an amazing director. This is a film that never left my mind since watching. It focuses on a poor found family, but questions Japanese society and what truly makes a family. Amazing performances here! The final shot is perfect.

It's kind of crazy that time with our favorite idols/idol groups is so finite, but I guess that just means to love them as much as we can in the time we have!

Dizzy Japanese Cinema Talk 1. Hell Dogs (2022) A yakuza thriller starring Okada Junichi and Sakaguchi Kentaro. A slow burn that builds up tension and explodes as the gritty underworld eats at our two leads. It's like a 90s yakuza film with modern sensibilities. Very gripping and executed so well.
