For my sins, I'm revisiting Thucydides. His history of the Peloponnesian war is a very great book, but Thucydides is an unreliable narrator. As putatively neutral as he tries to come across, the man had opinions.

One of the most sadistic things you can do to a child with ADHD is to punish them by making them sit in silence for hours with absolutely nothing to do. If they fidget, the parent extends the duration of the punishment. Curiously, this is counterproductive.

Korean period shows have marvelous costuming, but even more than that, really fantastic hats. Their film industry must have some superb milliners.

I have to laugh at this. Whenever the marketing people put "From visionary director _____" on the poster, that means "Ok, this person's films are weird, but they look great. Got it?"

This is great. Bi Gan is a very inventive, imaginative director and this film is a feast of remarkable images. Highly recommended.
