I think the tension between Product and Engineering boils down to one thing: Product thinks they are producing the next season of “Grand Designs.” Meanwhile Engineering knows its reruns of “This Old House.”
When I’m interviewing I have a neat trick to sus out the culture really quick: Ask the interviewer “when was the last time you were paged?” If they look at their watch, run.
