I think you can see from the replies to this, that the problem isn't so much who is paying, but the worry caused by gaping holes in the system. If quality and continuity of care was good, I *think* most folk with parents in this situation would not begrudge it costing "their" inheritance.

My mother had Alzheimer's, and it lasted a decade. That wilderness she descended into was made far worse by a state that essentially said "good luck" and "goodbye" having to navigate care and selling her house and worrying that we'd run out of money to finance it all. If anyone can fix it, good.

Thing is, we will *all* lose everything we've ever owned. In most cases it will go to whoever we nominate in our will; in some cases it will go to an adult social care provider. My experience of this is that an unearned £200k would have been very nice but...

Much as I hate the direction of travel here, these pledges are largely 🐂💩. Local to me Eastleigh set a target of 2025 in 2019. Did they meet it? Get close? Here's the most recent GHG report so I assume not. Approved the airport expansion in 2021 (although technically not "their" emissions) 🤷

I am struggling to think of a more inaccurate adjective for coal than "clean". It might have powered the industrial revolution and been at the heart of mining communities, but it's filthy stuff, even before you burn it.

Here’s what I’m observing in AI papers: Title and abstract: these set the scene in academic jargon overdrive. You’ve never seen so much over-use of the word “epistemic”. AI-enhanced papers start jargon-heavy and keep at it, exhaustingly, all the way to just within the journal word limit. 2/

My former student teacher and I met on Wednesday for a walk. He’s just finished his ECT and I’m thrilled he’s still thinking that teaching is an exciting and vital profession. He’s a true asset to the teaching community- full of joy and enthusiasm for the best history educational experiences.

I think this is right, but also information about how we reach net zero has been very poor. Whether that's a communication failure or because it involves some very difficult choices is an importnat question but, regardless, if you leave that unclear you can't expect people to embrace change.

I actually studied this. Net zero got lumped in with BLM, trans rights, feminism etc., as a luxury belief of middle class elites that disadvantages white working class people. The basic argument is that working class people will have to pay for net zero, which is basically an elite fad

I HAVE it's excellent. though nothing will beat the gut wrenching sobs I had reading her Song of Achilles.

I respect France's commitment to not working on a holiday.

It's well documented that over the first 2-3 years of a new spec, cohorts get a fair bit better and assessments either need to be made harder or grade boundaries need to shift to compensate. I'm just looking at this BTEC National spec / teaching planning and teaching guide and thinking...

Additionally, hippos - despite being massive - have almost no fat on them. All of that impressive bulk is muscle. 2% body fat. Compare that to Elephants, which are around 8-10%, or rhinos, which are 10-20%. The average human is around 20-40%, for reference. They're *all* muscle.
