There are some cases that change the course of your career. This one changed mine and I’ve never regretted the choice I made.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined on Monday to halt $655.5 million in damages that Palestinian authorities were ordered to pay plaintiffs in a U.S. civil lawsuit concerning attacks that killed and injured Americans in Israel from 2002 to 2004.
60 years ago today, the UT Tower was the site of a cowardly attack that stole the lives of 17 innocent souls. Thankful for the heroism of many that day, including my Dad.🤘
Nice to see one of the prominent features of the Drummond coat of arms and lore featured last night on House of the Dragon—the caltrop. The Drummonds strewed them across the battlefield at Bannockburn some 700 years ago in 1314 to ensure Robert the Bruce’s victory over the British.🏴💯
161 years ago today in 1865 Galveston—some *2.5 years* after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation—it is finally announced & enforced in Texas: The 1st #Juneteenth!💯 For 150 years, this date has been recognized by #SCOTX — Garrett v. Brooks, 41 Tex 479, 482 (1874). 🏛️
59 years ago today—just *8* years before I was born—#SCOTUS struck down anti-miscegenation laws banning interracial marriage in Loving v. Virginia, 388 US 1 (1967). We’re so grateful for the Lovings’ courage & sacrifice! Listen to the oral argument ⬇️ www.c-span.org/program/radi... #LovingDay ❤️
No law office in San Antonio is complete without Henry McArdle’s 1905 masterpiece—Dawn at the Alamo!💯
Wishing a wonderful Mother’s Day to my beautiful bride!🌹❤️😍🥰😘
Are you even a real Texas law firm if you don’t field a trap & skeet team?💥
If you want to kick your eggs up a notch, throw these two bad boys on ‘em!🍳🔥💯 Would have paid good money for this if I hadn’t made it myself!😁
190 years ago today at San Jacinto—Santa Anna learned in just *18 minutes* what #DontMessWithTexas really means! 👊 In the field were *seven* future #SCOTX Justices, including two Chief Justices—one of whom led the final charge that won the day. ⚖️💯 www.texasbar.com/Content/Navi...
So incredibly proud this morning of my brilliant and beautiful wife—who begins her first day today as Vice President, Head of Employment Legal at Liberty Mutual.⚖️💯
We men do so much better in life when we marry 🆙 😍💯
Highly recommend this excellent article from Georgia Court of Appeals Presiding Judge Dillard—who has most effectively advanced Fifth Circuit Judge Willett's mantle established more than a decade ago of embracing social media to directly engage with the public whom the judiciary serves.⚖️
ICYMI: My article in The Journal of Appellate Practice and Process—“Democratizing the Judiciary: Why Judges Should Engage ‘We the People’ Through Social-Media Platforms”—is now available online. journals.librarypublishing.arizona.edu/appellate/ar...
Many thanks to the Comal County Bar Association for having me out last week to speak on the new TRCP 166a MSJ rule! 🎙️⚖️
At this hour, 190 years ago, Santa Anna's buglers played Deguello—signaling all Alamo defenders would be put to the sword. youtu.be/oOCmf_LOsS0 Although the Fall of the Alamo had begun, Texans would topple Santa Anna a few weeks later. #RememberTheAlamo👊 #TexasForever💯
190 years ago today, Texas took her first step to becoming a sovereign nation—the Republic of Texas—by declaring her independence from Mexico.📜 Happy Texas Independence Day, y'all!💯 www.tsl.texas.gov/treasures/re... #TexasForever 💯
My baby doing big things out in California today!⚖️💯
