I would take this bet on the correct premise that the odds are nowhere near as "remote" as people feel they are. Recency bias is why we're losing our democracy. It couldn't *possibly* happen here is enabling our destruction.

These people believe in nothing. When you encounter people like this in your life, the correct response is to run the other way.
