And yet that fee is what's keeping the respectable publications alive, in an age where we all expect everything to be free and have devalued collected writing to a dangerous extent. It's an odd line to walk as a writer. Prestige versus mass exposure.

It's odd how the more successful you are in placing writing in respectable journals and mags, the fewer people will actually read it because it costs money to remove the paywall. $6 for a digital issue isn't a ton, but I'm a realist: people will click from here, see the price tag, close the window.
