I hope my game never gets popular, because if it does, I don't think I'm ready for the "Only 2D side-scrollers can be metroidvanias" people

I make games in Godot and draw comics! ⭐Wishlist Starmadillo: s.team/a/5268030 (Demo Available) ☕Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/doodledonut 🕹️Itch: https://doodledonut.itch.io/ I don't use generative AI
I just watched the Coyote vs ACME movie, and this is literally what Foghorn Leghorn said about torturing animated people to improve technology.
New today in the old tale of externalizing costs while privatizing profits: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman tells Politico, “We believe the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology.”
I feel this so hard. Art is just a (beautifully) overcomplicated way of expressing yourself, and about connecting with other people. It's social. Our whole *meaning* as humans is TO BE social. AI is inherently anti-social.
I can't stop thinking how wrong the tech bros have understood creativity and creators. Or even just having hobbies. #erliart
One of the best pieces of #gamedev advice I've come across is simply to open up the engine every day and do something. Even if it's writing a single line of code. Anyway, today was one of those days. I finished up modeling a teeny-tiny map just for this mountain peak.
Critter Drifters, on sale? Who would have thought. If you like kart racers with a hub world and boss races, you'll probably enjoy this too! store.steampowered.com/app/3755680/... #steam #indiedev

This is why having utility doesn't exclude something from being art. A car engine is art to people who love cars. A mechanical watch is art to people who love watches. A codebase is art to people who love code.
I frequently see "AI" boosters implying that LLMs are simply an innate and superior part of coding now, inescapable, and that literally all programmers agree with them. And, well. That, too, is a form of propaganda
One of my favorite things about having a long term #gamedev project is just looking at level geometry and finding ways I can change it to hide collectibles.

I'm excited to announce that the demo for my third-person metroidvania, Starmadillo, is finally available. Try it out, have fun, find bugs that make me sad, etc. s.team/a/5268030 #godot #gamedev #indiedev #steam

As an armadillo space archaeologist, you've crashed onto a mysterious planet. Luckily you're equipped with a Mobile Defense Unit (MDU) that can defend you from danger, but its capabilities were severe...

Good tips. A good name can even help with motivation in small ways too. A small but non-zero percentage of the reason I started making Starmadillo was *because* of the name.
Let's talk about naming your video game! This is something I come back to with teams over and over again. Naming is really hard. A decent name is hard to find, and a bad one will really make it hard for people to remember your game. Here are some tips.

And just like that, a new ability mechanic! This area is actually pretty close to the start, but I haven't even started modeling the area you'll get the ability to use it. It makes me happy to be able to tease stuff like this so early in the game. #gamedev #indiedev s.team/a/5268030
I appreciate Steam Next Fest acting as a project timeline pacer (talking about next February). It gives me a deadline to shoot for, but if I miss it...it's okay since there are three every year. If everything pans out right, I'll have a finished game releasing after it next spring!
Have some more early screenshots of the new upcoming Steam launch for the original Hypnagogia Demo out next month💎🗓️
I've been busy modeling this icy cavern area recently. Getting to the point where I think it's time to work on another boss fight though. The next upgrade in the sequence I have planned really opens up a lot of possibilities. #gamedev #Indiedev #godot store.steampowered.com/app/5268030/...

*gets followed by another gamedev-related account* Oh, it's AI. BLOCK
You know the Tetris effect? I get that for 3D modeling, extruding and pulling on vertices in my head. I also get it for programming and debugging sometimes, but I have to tell my brain "You can't execute code in your head, it doesn't work that way" #gamedev
I like doing these stupid trendy things. They give me an opportunity to reminisce and really decide what things made an impact on me more than others. A reply for each:
I really hate that I have to doubt whether comments to my posts are extruded from an LLM now. Part of me wants to reply, in case they are real, but the thought of having a conversation with a computer and not knowing it makes me feel gross.
