It might surprise you to hear that NG used CAT-3 cable for AES connections. The kind used for Telephones. I mean, yes, it works, *technically*, but not very well and would be (and was) prone to problems.

Went down a rabbit hole, thanks to a reddit post that showed a park that was near my first place in the city, some 25+ years ago. For a laugh, I looked up the complex I was in, and found that the exact unit I lived in was available to rent! I don't want to, at least not for the price tag, but... 1/
