I have written a letter to Prime Minister Andy Burnham urging him to reconsider the Government's previous position on compensation for WASPI women. I have asked the PM to explore a fair compensation package that recognises the injustice these women have suffered for too long.

I've signed a joint letter with my fellow Scottish Labour MPs to the Deputy First Minister, requesting that Scottish pubs, clubs and live music venues, benefit from the UK Labour Government's new business rates savings. The SNP must act to ensure they receive this vital support.

Dear Deputy First Minister,

This week, the new Prime Minister Andy Burnham has taken action to cut the business rates bills for pubs, social clubs and live music venues. His announcement today sets out that pubs, social clubs and live music venues in England will receive a 20% cut to their business rates bills from April next year, saving the typical pub an average £1,100 a year.

This announcement is in addition to the 15% cut which came into force in April this year for these venues across England. This offer to the businesses which make up the social fabric of our communities has not been fully passed on in Scotland, despite the associated Barnett consequentials for the Scottish block grant.

According to evidence given to the APPG on the nighttime economy in 2025, these industries in Scotland are £200 million of state assistance behind their equivalents in England, purely because the Scottish Government has not passed on the Barnett consequentials to the sector in Scotland.

In 2025, one pub every single week in Scotland permanently closed its doors. These businesses, which form the backbone of our communities, have been fighting for survival for too long.

We write to you as representative of Scottish constituencies to ask one simple question:

Will you commit to passing these savings on, in full, to Scottish pubs, social clubs and live music venues?

We would welcome a meeting with you to discuss the importance of this decision to the businesses in our constituencies.BildBild

A sneak peek of my annual newsletter! Take a look to see if where you stay has directly benefitted from UK Government Pride in Place funding - have I been in your local area? My newsletter will be dropping on every doorstep in West Dunbartonshire this week so keep an eye out👀

The PM said he would give people breathing space with support on the cost of living. He's taken a huge step in abolishing VAT on household electricity, saving every household in the UK money on their energy bills. We're making life more affordable for millions across the country.

I have written to our new Foreign Secretary requesting we meet to discuss the case of my constituent, Jagtar Singh Johal, urging his release be treated as a priority. This is the 9th Foreign Secretary since Jagtar's imprisonment. I want to work together to secure his release without further delay.

Take a look at some of what I've been doing this week as your MP, including advocating for further investment in West Dunbartonshire, and signing a cross-party letter urging the Government to impose sanctions, and ban all trade & arms transfers with Israel📝

The SNP Scottish Government have still not presented an equivalent to the Places of Worship Renewal Fund, despite receiving the funding to do so from UK Government. I signed a letter requesting clarity on what support they will provide to Scottish parishes so they can also access this vital funding.
