Went to look up an article on place attachment for a lecture I'm giving on #geography of #naturalhazards, and I see the message below. What fresh nonsense is this? I can only assume this is because #Wiley is a US based publisher. Time to protect our knowledge from digital book burning...

~ 2 years ago representatives of 6 different #leisure orgs got together during the 2023 CCLR to discuss the future of #leisurestudies. While we ended with more questions than answers, our conversation sparked a newly published paper, available open access below. @leisure-studies.bsky.social

The future of leisure studies in six landscapes

What is the future of leisure studies? The answer is as undefined as the field’s past. Leisure studies have always lacked a true, unified governing body (e.g. no general assembly) that has establis...

Glad to see my chapter "Governing complexity: the UNESCO World Heritage System" finally in print! It was written while staying in the World Heritage site of Visby during a visiting period at Campus Gotland, Uppsala University. A very meta critique of #WorldHeritage #governance 😂 Link below.

Handbook on Tourism Governance

‘This comprehensive collection outlines the essential elements of tourism governance while addressing the pressing issue of scale vis-à-vis fostering tourism sustainability. The Handbook of Tourism Go...

#Arctic #climateheritage🏺 “If anything happens to one building, they can easily replace it...But you can’t replace a culture and a history. If you let those die out, they’re next to impossible to bring back.”

Polar heritage sites are slipping into the sea – but can one island live forever online?

On Qikiqtaruk, off Canada’s Yukon coast, scientists are wielding virtual-reality cameras, 3D models and digital archives to protect the island’s history and culture before it disappears

Anyone else finding reviewing so much harder recently? I swear almost every other article that I get is either salami sliced or clearly written with AI. The publishing culture has gotten so toxic with the people gaming the system. We can and should do better, otherwise, what is the point? #academia

Still trying to figure out this platform. I don't think a lot of my previous network is here, but hei to all the new followers! Definitely a different feed with so much archaeology and history content, but I'm enjoying seeing new and always interesting things! Also pre-apologies for all the gifs!

Happy Finnish Independence Day! 🇫🇮

Lots of convos recently in my field about issues with #metrics, rankings, and authorship inflation/manipulation. Yet, no one wants to discuss how #academics who do these things have a much higher chance of getting a job as we prioritize quantity over quality and narcissism over integrity. #academia

Had a great time talking about #WorldHeritage, #Tourism, the #SDGs and #governance during my #SuHRF seminar at #CampusGotland #UppsalaUniversity. Was especially happy to see so many engaged students (guess last week's lecture was ok then ). #SustainableDevelopment #OulunYliopisto

How do we find our networks on here? Does anyone have any tips/tricks? This space feels like it would be good if only I could find all my people (and plugins are not an option as I use safari)
