Is AI to coding what the internet was to writing for print? Last night I read a line in a novel about college grads in the late ‘90s moving to NYC to get paid to write, not knowing it was the last gasp of the pre-internet world. Can’t help but change that to “write code” and see the similarities.

Instagram is becoming a great case study for how to ruin a great product with optimization. The threads embeds, the suggested content in the feed, the trash heap of a discover page algorithm. The whole thing is starting to feel like junk ads at the margins of news websites.

Your job as an engineer is not just to make things, but to construct an understanding of the underlying systems so that you build *appropriate* and *durable* things. Reject silver bullets. Question marketing to the point of disbelief or nuanced partial acceptance. It's the job.
