There is a disconnect between the reality that the US is threatening its neighbors and behaving like a rogue state and the assumptions of movies and TV shows that they are a force for good in the world. That is simply no longer true, but the screenwriters seem to have missed the memo.

I can’t listen to that barely sentient mouldy fascist tangerine anymore. The sound of his voice is enough to send me into a rage.

I hope Democrats are planning for a post-Trump future. Because any such plan that does not include reinvigorating public education and instilling small d democratic values in the population will just lead us right back to where we are now.

Leaving his current problems aside for the moment, I find Ed Sheeran’s music mostly insipid, made for radio drivel.

I have loved watching Alexander Ovechkin play. The power. The speed (earlier in his career). The physicality. His open joy when he scores. But his support for Putin had already ruined that. And appearing in a campaign photo like this for Putin after 4 years of murdering Ukrainians is unforgivable.

Everything is just impossibly dumb

There are few things I find more irritating than online ads I accidentally click on, redirecting me to some website. This is especially true for adds or apps where I pay for the content (hello, Globe and Mail).

Flock cameras. This is a Dark Knight dystopian nightmare.

Flock cameras have no place in Texas. They can piece together an exact map of your behavior — the places you went and how long you were there. Flock calls this “pattern-of-life” mapping. Texans call it something else: government overreach.

Of all the euphemisms for someone dying, saying the deceased “got their wings” has to be the most irritating.

It feels like we’re living through the film “Civil War”. Can we skip ahead to the end?

It would be refreshing to see a head of state or government call out Donald Trump. “What do you make of the President’s threat to rename Lake Ontario?” “I think it’s idiotic, petulant and childish and should be beneath the President of the United States. It’s embarrassing.” If only.

Dolly Parton’s loss feels all the keener at this moment. She represented the good in America while also managing to transcend politically partisan divides in her fanbase. Her passing feels depressingly symbolic.

The more details come out about US behaviour at the bargaining table, the clearer it becomes how despicable it was: changing the deal at the last minute in ways designed to undermine our sovereignty. Time for those raised Canadian elbows to deliver a Gordie Howe special right to Trump’s face.

The deal with the US has been scuppered by the US trying to change the terms at the last minute. Classic bad faith bargaining. It gave Canada a little taste of what it could expect moving forward. Deals with those without honour aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Elbows up.

Woah.

Any concessions Canada makes or has made to the Americans at the table over tariffs and trade are a mistake. Concessions embolden Trump. They make him feel good and powerful. And they encourage him to come back for more.

Fox News graphic claims falsely that the average price of gas one year ago was $4.13, lower than it is right now. It was actually $3.14!

I did the impossible today. I went into the Tupperware drawer, chose a Tupperware container, and then selected its lid on the first try. A miracle? It’s not for me to say.

There are so many things to despise about this man but the generational damage he is doing by spreading misinformation about vaccines is near the top of the list. People have died because of him and they will continue to for decades. Irresponsible is too weak a word to describe it.
