Today, University of Aberdeen Court will decide on the future of the institution: staff workload, staff-student ratios, restructuring, etc. Staff unions have grave concerns about the impacts of these changes. Good governance is vital! Hereโs the letter I wrote to Court:
Aberdeen University must listen to its staff
Aberdeen University Court meets today to decide on changes to staff workload and discuss restructuring. Staff unions oppose these changes. Court must heed the warnings from staff. The Scottish Parliament is watching!

I hear critical positions towards so-called ยซartificial intelligenceยป nowadays framed more and more as ยซrejectionismยป, and this is especially formulated as a critique of the left. The argument often goes something like this: Rather than seeing the potentials of AI, the left merely rejects it 1/

Back to work today after 14 (non-continuous) days of strike action at the University of Aberdeen. Missing picket line comrades (and @malch.bsky.social 's tea loaf especially)!
The Friday union email lists 14 universities already striking or balloting to strike. Thatโs over 20% of the public higher education institutions in the country. Each one of those in a local dispute over job cuts or pension theft. At least two other branches want to ballot. A deep roiling crisis.
