Every pediatrician I’ve spoken to is shocked & horrified. The CDC’s reversal on newborn Hep B vaccination will harm kids. The birth dose protects all babies from highly infectious Hep B, which can lead to lifelong disease & liver cancer. HBV is safe & delaying past 24 hrs puts newborns at risk.
BREAKING: ACIP votes to roll back universal newborn HepB shot. Dr. Meissner: physicians pledge to “do no harm”, and warned, “This will do harm.” The birth dose prevents ~70% of early HBV transmission. When kids get HBV before age 6, 70-90% get chronic disease, and ~1 in 4 go on to liver cancer.
