I keep saying I'm going to stop reading the Times, which I've been reading since I had to spread the physical paper on the floor because it was too big for me to hold, but this really feels like the last straw. Which means there is no national paper worth reading in 2026?

The Senate HELP committee passed a bill that would block the Trump administration from transferring many functions (including postsecondary education) out of the Department of Education, but would allow student loans to be transferred to Treasury.

A friend at UNL sent me this today. Yeah, that does feel appropriate.

Being neutral in the face of fascism would be a poor choice 🤷🏻‍♀️

My department's incoming cohort has 5 PhD students--down from ~15-20 in recent years.

I am supposed to schedule an exit interview with my dean or associate dean or chair but turns out the dean quit, the associate dean hasn't been hired, and my interim chair's contract is up. So 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really enjoying that admin said students would have 3 years to complete their degrees but apparently they meant a degree at another university. Cool, cool.

I was actively dissuaded from engaging in shared governance by senior faculty in numerous mentoring programs. The thing I was most proud of when I earned tenure was doing it my way

I am, once again, begging higher ed faculty and staff to get involved in governance at all levels. I know "service" is seriously undervalued for P&T purposes, but my experience is that university leaders truly value faculty involvement in important decisions.
