Best records of today. Shocked how much I liked the Bryan Ferry and Peter Gabriel records since I’m not big into Roxy Music, Genesis, or later Peter Gabriel. Chemical Brothers was fun to listen to, made me feel like I was delivering mail in The Matrix.
Best records I checked out today. I was always told that after Flip Your Wig Husker Du’s discography goes downhill, but that’s so wrong, Warehouse is great! “Could You Be the One” and “Friend, You’ve Got to Fall” are top tier Du.
Best records I listened to today. Going through old pazz and Jop lists for fun, 97 was just an amazing year. Good Health was like the last place one for ‘02 and holds up so much better than I expected. Pretty Girls Make Graves seem under-represented when talking about early-aughts bands.
“Won't you lay me down in tall grass and let me do my stuff” is one of the most upsetting classic rock lyrics I hate it.
The shift to CDs really enabled a lot of 90s bands to make albums that were way too long.

So far I’ve read the excellent and still timely Le Guin entry “The Word for World is Forest” and the very phoned-in but incredibly titled Vonnegut story “The Big Space Fuck”.
4-track jangly indie from 1984, love the sound The Green Pajamas got on this record.
Great indie record from 2000 by the guy who engineered a bunch of GBV-related records from that era. The song Laser Days is phenomenal
The Feelies were masters of the energetic slow build. They navigated the trappings of 80s production so well, still sound timeless
Bill Fox truly nailed lofi folk recording. And he fronted probably my favorite 80s power pop/indie band, The Mice. Dream oeuvre.
