Ah the joy of finding out how amazing reading glasses are going to be. Getting old is silly, but that's going to be a miracle change for all my crafting.

I really appreciate google's AI explaining references a 7th grader would get instead of giving me the search results I'm looking for. Very useful. Jfc. Amazing to watch them utterly destroy the tools they built.

The magic crafts of my great grandmother are still just cool. Magazine adds to beads with a toothpick and some glue? Definitely seems like it shouldn't be real, but works beautifully!

A hand holding several small paper beads in different shades of green.

I just had the strangest (good) customer service interaction. My Oura ring is being weird, so I gave their bot assistant a try. It looked at my data, told me it was broken, and confirmed the size and color to replace it in like 3 minutes. I feel like I just stepped through a mirror to another time.

Look women’s clothing brands. If you talk about "inclusive sizing" but every one of your models has a B/C cup, I'm not even bothering to try anything. Clothes for women with larger chests are not just bigger. I need DARTS. I need PRINCESS SEAMS. I do not need the same shirt xeroxed up.

I'm always jealous of people who have gorgeous and fun shaped nails, so since I've been off the computer taking care of family I figured I'd grow mine. So yeah, I'm not coordinated enough for this. Not only can I not type on a keyboard, I have stabbed myself several times. How do people DO this?!

We're putting all this human effort into building AI most people don't want when we could be doing something useful like eliminating mosquitoes from earth. What a waste! Context: I have so many mosquito bites, my mom's joking it's good she knows I've had chickenpox already.

Almost a year into the federal occupation of D.C., we want to hear from residents like you: What memory sticks out to you most about the past year? What questions do you have about the ongoing takeover? And what are you seeing in the streets? Take our survey here:

Anyone have ideas on where I could buy a replacement box for an old Yahtzee set? Ideally, I'd like one that that is the same size on top, so I can paste on the original box top (14x8) and made of wood. I am having no luck finding things and may just be searching the wrong thing maybe?

From the article "Flock chief executive Garrett Langley said misuse of its systems is inevitable and that the company is focused on providing tools to catch perpetrators after the fact." So they know they're making a stalking tool and are assisting anyway.

New: We found 50 cops who misused Flock cameras and other license-plate readers for personal purposes, often to spy on their girlfriends or ex-wives. He "watched every single move I made. ... Who do you turn the chief of police in to?" wapo.st/3S6rTuo

This seems like a solid target for lobbying state legislators and one that is achievable with bipartisan efforts (different reasons - same goal). Someone better at internet legislation would need to look at the Delaware law, but it sounds like a good move from this reporting.

To preserve privacy in the digital age, high tech government surveillance tools — like reverse warrants — must be reined in. The Supreme Court recently issued a ruling to help protect our privacy, now our lawmakers must finish the job.

The way disability works in this country makes it so unbelievably hard to take care of family members that it is ridiculous. Inherit money to guarantee long-term care if something goes wrong = lose Medicaid. Figuring out how to keep someone safe is just too hard in this legal regime and shouldn't be

Ah yes. The ever joyful moment of "Soooo.... I pinned this to fit really nicely and uh did not consider which direction those pins are going in taking it off." Woopsies. Sorry mom! 😬

"We didn't *mean* to say you shouldn't have Home Rule, just that you shouldn't have Home Rule on issues about your own city taxation. Why don't you think that's different?!" Yeah, their letter should net them a permanent boycott. Glad they're feeling the heat and I'll never use them again.

In a letter to the D.C. Council, Door Dash says its recent advocacy for a House GOP bill that restricts D.C.'s ability to determine taxes and fees reflected its opposition to a new 20-cent delivery tax in D.C., "not D.C.'s broader ability to... govern autonomously."

OR we could expect that someone doing the "just asking questions" routine has read any of 40 years of discussion about food deserts and why money for individuals hasn't solved them. JAQ posts from policy people are only useful if they've bothered to engage - otherwise it's silly AND dishonest.

if there’s anything I would want to drill into the public consciousness it’s that there are almost always like a dozen ways to approach any given problem and some of them will be more effective than others and we have to stop acting like the questions around it are against fixing the issue

These poor response people (and it's probably like 2 or 3 people). Apparently people call 911 to report power outages now? Just got a text begging people to use 911 for emergencies and the non-emergency number for power or tree limb reports. This is the 3 giant storm in a month. They should know!

The people who update my home town's Facebook page during major storms sound really tired. "We are aware of electrical outages and multiple lightening strikes. We will assess the damage when it is safe to do so AFTER the storm passes." = "Fuck off. I'm not going out there either dumbass. Shoo."
