Some journals require lay abstracts alongside conventional abstracts. I almost always prefer the lay version because they more clearly describe what was done and what the results mean, which says a lot about how we approach scientific writing

I was really happy to find a link to raw data in paper I was reading, but this is what I found when I clicked on the OSF link. At least it was better than a CSV file with one cell containing the text: "Data available upon reasonable request"

Psychology is in the middle of several overlapping crises—replication, generalisability, theory—but this isn't new. Crisis discussions first appeared in the 1920s (!?). The specific topics have changed but the structure seems kind of similar, maybe we can learn something from this? doi.org/czvw7m

The second half of the 1920s may be called ‘‘the Golden Age’’ of crisis declarations in psychology. The diagnosis became so widespread that in 1926 the then influential Viennese psychologist and philosopher Karl Bühler wrote that ‘‘one can now even read in the newspapers that there is a crisis in psychology’’ (Bühler, 1926, p. 455). A great number of such declarations appeared in articles and even book-length studies coming from quite different schools and traditions in psychology (see contributions by Allesch, Hatfield, Hyman, and Sturm in this volume) and from several countries throughout Europe and from North America, having repercussions, too, for philosophy (Feest, this volume).

Trust in science. Expert opinion, context, and open data all help, and in the era of AI, we should aspire to audit trails that confirm data provenance. Key to trust is accountability of researchers, however, and for that we need identity verification. New blog post. openrxiv.org/trust-signal...

Many people write grant applications assuming their reader is engaged, but the opposite is more likely. Your evaluators are time- and attention-poor, so you should design your application with this in mind. This slide is part of a talk I'm giving today on writing grant applications

Right column, four tips: (1) Land the project on page 1 — don't build it like a story; state what, why, and how by the first page. (2) Help them fill out the evaluation form — mirror the funder's criteria in your headings so evaluators can copy-paste into their report. (3) Bold the key sentences — mark claims a skimmer must catch, but sparingly; if everything is bold, nothing is. (4) Put a summary figure on page 1 — one visual that captures the whole project and makes sense before any prose does.
