Dr. Mitchell was so cool. He told me he was a huuuuge comics guy and cited Jack Kirby and Jim Steranko as his influences. Looking at his work and Kirby's, you can definitely see it. (left is a panel kirby did, right is "The Trip" by Dr. Mitchell)

I spoke to Dr. Horace Mitchell, who did these two posters below when he was a student at Rice in the late '60s. He went on to run NASA's Science Visualization Studio, animating NASA's research for public consjmption!
