Jürgen Habermas, a philosopher and public intellectual who was one of the most influential and cited thinkers in postwar Germany, died on Saturday. He was 96.

I am hugely honoured to be giving this year’s Warrender lecture, especially given the extraordinary array of political theorists who precede me - including Lea Ypi, Quentin Skinner, and David Miller, among others. My topic: ‘How not to defend liberal institutions’. Looking forward to it!
