(Another) Call for Editors at the Open Journal of Astrophysics!
The number of papers being submitted to the Open Journal of Astrophysics continues to rise, as demonstrated by the following graphic which shows the stats for new submissions for the last five years: It's very clear that the thicket is getting thicker and thicker as times goes on! The increasing number of articles is of course very welcome indeed, but it is increasing the load on our Editorial Board and that includes me!

I don't want to sound like a broken record but... Six years ago, I reported that the world had missed *all* of its 2020 biodiversity targets. Today, the UN has reported that the world is currently off track for *all* of its 2030 biodiversity targets (!). www.cbd.int/globalreview...

Most of this (don’t let one person dominate, listen actively, have fewer meetings), is pretty obvious, but stubbornly hard to enact.

We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.
The worldwide whisky downturn is putting Tasmania's top shelf industry on edge
Amid whisky's global gloom Tasmania is still seizing 'amazing opportunities'
A global whisky downturn is hitting distillers from Kentucky to Kilkenny. But it is unfamiliar territory for Tasmania, where producers are facing their biggest challenge since the state was governed by colonial law.

Ho boy, do I have a story for you. The question of how ice breaks has been central to glaciology for well over a century.
Glen@gergyl.bsky.social · 4d agoDidn't know this was especially controversial. Unsupported vertical ice obviously has a structural limit, determined by the distribution of internal fractures, especially ~vertical ones. Vertically fractured ice becomes a column crushing problem. Details are what's not known, and consequences?
