The limitation of course is amps. If you have a 1200W and the inverter feeds it into a plug at 120V, you get 10amps, the typical breaker limit for most house circuits.

What is like to know is: With advances in power electronics, management systems, and batteries, how large a capacity could we safely scale up to with plug-in solar? Balcony is around 1kW. Could we eventually have rooftop systems less than 5kW just plug in? 10kW?
