HG Wednesday: New horse at therapy stables! Indigo is a dappled grey gelding, 15 hh and sweet natured but not a Percheron. They plan on running a blood test for breed type. I had so much help from Blake there was time to watch Sierra in her training to return to lessons. Pretty pinto mare. #horses
Horsegirl Victory! Riding Biscuit today got me an A+ from the instructor and I could feel the difference. Yields, rollbacks, tricky gate maneuvers, trotting in collection, stopping on the hind end, we did it all. That mare is my favorite lesson horse so it's too bad she doesn't do trails. #horses
HG Sunday: More of the same, but fewer people. I walked Sierra & Melissa told me she is back to giving lesson to very small children. Just walking of course. The charity garden at the bottom of the hill has huge pumpkins growing, & is not struggling at all. I was never so successful at it. #horses
HG Saturday: 7 am at the therapy stables to muck before the heat. I always forget how well-attended Saturdays are with all the lessons and volunteers showing up at 8 in shirts like mine. I got to watch a couple disabled kids ride ponies and it honestly warmed my heart to see such joy. #horses
Horsegirl Friday: Early morning ride on Stella was not as fun as I hoped. Wonderful quick canter, but so sluggish and stubborn at the trot. And there was a LOT of trot. We did circles, oh boy did she not want to. Can I please go back to Buck? Trainer says this will make me a better rider. #horses
HG Wednesday: Up early to scoop poop at the farm, but with Blake on duty I was done lickedy split so I took Sierra for a walk in the brief respite from heat. I go into my daydream world as she plods on peacefully at my side. Imagine a gypsy horse colored like a milk cow, that's Sierra. #horses
HG Tuesday: Once more on Ace the silver dapple mustang. It was rough but better than last time I rode him, things got done, we walked & trotted the pattern while focusing on moving his shoulders & keeping my hands level. Not easy & Ace disobeys more than most. Trainer scolded me, the usual. #horses
Once more I hauled old books to the library, but this time the lady said they are no longer accepting donations because the room is too full of them and it's now a fire hazard. I saw the stacks piled to the ceiling & she's right, but I also know why. Old people dying, families unloading the estate.
HG Sunday: I have lived all over the country & this is Miami in summer. Cloudy hot humid. Also Texas. In sadder news, boarder horse Starsky was euthanized for colic & now Angie's other horse Cindy (the all white roan) is rolling in distress. She gave her Banamine and Gatorade and walked her. #horses
Horsegirl Saturday: Sweaty but good. Not as smooth as last week on Buck, still have trouble getting him over on the rail while loping, but we kept it together. Got to lead Ginger to the wash rack & chat w/ the trainer, watched an advanced student counting strides on a mustang. Quality time. #horses
Old art of a golden skunk. I was really hitting my stride and drawing tons of furry girls back then. #furryart
HG Wednesday: As humid as Miami here, but full clouds in the morning so farm chores were no biggie, plus Blake was helping clean stalls. Good news! The new horse is a dappled grey Percheron and will be here soon to replace Big Oliver. I am excited to get a new breed for the adult riders. #horses
HG Tuesday: Pleasant morning ride on Biscuit, we did collected trot & it reminded me of the old days on Kiwi. Everything went rather well, we did circles & rollbacks & whatnot, until the end when I was trying to back her up straight in a traffic cone box. Was never a problem, until it is. #horses
HG Friday: All horse people have different ways of doing things, & are usually adamant that everyone else is wrong. After a successful ride in the hot sun, I was reminded of this during the untacking. And after the shower. I felt stupid but I recall other instructors telling me the opposite. #horses
In this heat I take solace in movies about space & everything going wrong for the crew. Passengers, I.S.S and Stowaway have all taught me to never for any reason do a space walk. Once u leave the airlock you are facing Chekov's gun, in the form of a solar storm or evil coworkers, someone gotta die.
Horsegirl Wednesday: Humid w/ sweat running rivers, but I had help from Blake cleaning stalls today. Flies were biting horses and us, just to make things interesting. Permethrin sprayed. Sierra is much better now that she cannot crib on the metal rails, so she can't colic from wind sucking. #horses
Horsegirl Tuesday: Sweaty ride on bareback pad, everything was about leg and seat, poor Stick had to trot w/ me struggling to keep correct. No saddle makes trotting terrible, because your body wants to grip in "chair seat" position and it's wrong. Oh man did he earn that shower. #horses
When I was a kid there were metal lunch boxes with Battlestar Galactica or Star Wars themes in full color. Also Burger King glasses with the latest Star Wars color illustrations on the outside. They broke in the dishwasher.
Verify your age: When I was in elementary school there was a display all about the Mount St. Helens enormous explosion.
Horsegirl Sunday: blessed clouds, givers of shade, made the stable chores bearable. The army corps of engineers needed a clear path to the dam nearby so they removed a couple oak trees that I happened to like, thus less shade near the wheelbarrow parking. Sierra is doing better & got lunged. #horses
Horsegirl Friday: Hot at 9 am, yes, but a day not spent in the stables is a day wasted. So Buck and I worked on the collected trot and lope, while a trio of women rode chestnut horses around me. Instructor says I have been looking really good lately, which is due to my Tuesday lessons. #horses
Old art from the days of skunk furries and big hair. Also a pun. #furryart
Horsegirl Wednesday: Lots of extra hands at Therapy Stables so after cleaning a few stalls, I groomed the Gypsies (Cody and Sierra) while the team worked on repairing metal rails that a couple boarder horses kicked apart last night after somehow escaping. Wish we had camera footage of that. #horses
Horsegirl Tuesday: Guys, I finally rode Vicious! The bay mustang toward the top of the difficulty chart, and I did it w/o spurs because he is so "sensitive." It was not pretty weaving poles at the trot, but at one point he spooked and I handled that perfectly. So it's a personal victory. #horses
My neighbors got ahold of a mortar I am guessing? Really could only afford two rockets which they fired off at 10 pm, outside my window. No shame, I was setting off my own ammunition earlier. It was a weird night, and I still got up early to work on the farm. #fireworks
Horsegirl Saturday: Instead of riding lessons, I helped at Therapy Stables so they could focus on their fireworks stand fund-raiser. I will be stopping by there later to get my usual pyrotechnics, but what a glorious cloudy day this is. I could go on forever like this, cool and content. #horses
