Hydrological Scientist at Charles Darwin University, 🇦🇺. Researching groundwater & surface water. Working with ecologists & remote sensing folks. Also love home brewing 🍺, heavy metal 🤘 & recently, 3D printing. Opinions are my own.

Back on Bluesky after a few month social media hiatus. Just noticed that we cracked @kinarnicholas.bsky.social 's #hydrology paper of the day list (a few months ago)! This is a neat paper led by @dalhydro.bsky.social that shows the important control that #groundwater has on river #temperatures.

Hydrology Paper of the Day @dalhydro.bsky.social @dylanjirvine.bsky.social on how shallow groundwater temperatures vary due to hydrological processes: monitoring and measurements; energy fluxes and numerical models; seasonality and spatial patterns; mixing and exchanges; and future research.

It certainly (and thankfully) won't be the wettest year on record in Darwin. We may be on track for one of the top 5 at this rate... With devastating floods across many northern Aus regions, thankfully, this wet season is almost at a close... #hydrology 🧪

This should generate a lot of interest from researchers and research users. On one hand, it is a highly profitable company automating parts of the process. On the other, more papers are being submitted ( #AI a factor), and reviews take ages. #academicsky Thoughts?

Academia's a funny game. In 2026 I've had a paper accepted (yay) and seen a paper based on an idea I discussed with someone at a conference (boo). It wasn't my idea, but the paper included someone that I've collaborated with in the past. Thought I may have gotten involved. Oh well... #academicsky

After using almost an entire roll of gaffer tape in an attempt to keep them together, this is the final state of my shitty Hard Yakka boots after a week's fieldwork in the desert. Utter garbage of a product. Never again 💩🧪

Wow, the #water situation in Tehran is dire. 15 million people with very limited water access to. Inefficient irrigation practices and international sanctions are major issues. It's so bad, evacuations are being considered 💧 theconversation.com/irans-capita...
