This piece is worth a close read: the connection between language and war and the connection to war. I have an unexpected connection to this war through my Ukrainian daughter in law, my son is also learning Ukrainian. #Ukraine www.theguardian.com/news/ng-inte...

‘The war leaked into every lesson’: learning Ukrainian in a country under siege

The long read: Soon after my first visit to Ukraine four years ago, I began language lessons. It taught me more than I ever expected

I stumbled across my copy of 'The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner: a dystopian SF novel about environmental collapse in America. The smoke from burinng cities everywhere and after famine and unrest become rampant, the government scapegoats Honduran rebels and puts the US under martial law

#climate Today in comments on online article about wildfires sweeping Europe one person claimed the government was planting inflammable brush to create fires to con people climate change was real and another that the WEF was setting magnifying glasses up in fields for a similar scam.

#Art #Hockney My daughter was reading BBC website coverage of the sad death of the artist, when she spotted a photo of people looking at his paintings, where you can quite clearly see me bending forward to read the label next to one... A weid connection.

#ttrpg #dnd #rpg #gaming I was thinking earlier about all the things I've learned, researching as GM or player in various rpg sessions... What panther pee smells like*, the dietary habits of the Cassowary, the history of the rowing machine and laxatives available in 1925 London... * like popcorn

#Art #Hockney Sad news today, that David Hockney has died... We've been to many of his exhibitions and even to the lane near Bridlington where he painted his spring pictures... Just 2 weeks ago we were at the Serpentine Gallery exhibition - this is among his last paintings, from there

Miss the evening news and you can miss a whole cycle of 'a beautiful deal is coming', 'their military is dust', 'we will strike them hard' and back to 'a beautiful deal is coming tomorrow'. #Trump

On flags... I was in part of West London yesterday and noticed Union Jack flags all along the high street... But wait: these were labelled 'Battle of Britain 85' and obviously put up by the council. They replace England flags put up by local 'Crusaders' I take my hat off to Hillingdon Council!

I noticed the Pride flags are up again in my small corner of England: the Council puts them up across the county every year. They also put up England flags on sporting occasions, so when the World Cup starts they'll alternate Pride flags with England flags. Pride flag, England flag... I like that.
