So I've played about two hours of Beast of Reincarnation and I don't think there's an original thought in the entire thing?! On paper it's very much for me but I'm just.......bored?

"Bringing taste back into the room. Metrics are a tool, not a decision-maker, said the group, which recommended reinvesting in editorial judgment – people whose job is to recognise great work and advocate for it." It's almost like games journalism is good, actually.

The industry makes great games, but nobody can find them. Algorithms built to surface content are increasingly rewarding volume, familiarity, and short-term engagement over quality or originality. https://bit.ly/44VFYO9

Had a hankering. Plugged in the old console. Popped in the disc. Everything works. Fancy that? Anyway I maintain this game is great. It still looks incredible. Lightning is badass. And it’s the best battle music of the series. (Let’s forget the story is nonsense though eh?)

Catching up on the FF14 Fan Fest keynote. I’m always astounded at the art design and production value in 14. Evercold is no exception. Love that it’s going for a more traditional fantasy setting this time. And a FF7 Raid?! Yes please. I really need to get back into this.

Been meaning to play Chrono Cross for years and now finished it. Brilliant battle system and some clever ideas, but it all feels too complex for the PS1. Too many companions. Nonsense story. Not a patch on Chrono Trigger 🙃

007 completed! It’s sexy and thrilling and an authentic Bond experience. Its individual parts (stealth, shooting, driving) aren’t always top tier but in this package it all feels like a playable film in the best way.

Started Bond last night and loving it so far. It’s flashy and sexy and the training montage is incredible and it’s so youthful and cool. But mainly, where the hell can I buy this jacket please?

Sad to say I’m not enjoying Mina the Hollower as much as I’d hoped or others have. The thing with Souls games is they’re tough but fair with precise controls. But combine that trickiness with old school controls and sensibilities…it’s just a recipe in frustration for me.

Finally caught up on SGF and the Revelation reveal. Open world, jobs, Cid and Vincent combat, the Highwind…it’s all looking incredible. I just hope they can stick the landing and actually resolve this convoluted trilogy. Also new Fumita Ueda HELLO! And give me Control Resonant now please!

I’m off on holiday today and then travelling for work next week so Mina the Hollower has come at exactly the right time. One of those “this was absolutely made for me” games. Can’t wait to get stuck in.

I’m not really a car or racing gay - my usual rule is if I have to brake I’m not interested - but apparently sexy cars in Japan with hyper pop is enough to have me hooked. Absolutely loving Forza!

And that’s credits on Saros. I do think Returnal was a tighter experience with its narrative and gameplay intrinsically linked, and its explorable biomes with hidden depth. But Saros has outstanding visual design: grand, elegant and alien.

There’s a line in Mixtape about getting “the panic” in silence, the need for music to provide soundtrack. It struck a chord. Like playing music when going to the shops and pretending you’re in a music video. How music makes the mundane cinematic.

That’s a wrap on Pragmata. Just a brilliant, unique action game. Like Capcom decided to try and one up Platinum. Best game so far this year. Yes, better than Requiem. (Still hate the training missions though)

Been reading the Expanse books which put me in a Mass Effect mood so about time I finally played 2 in the Legendary Edition. It’s showing its age these days but still looks and plays great as a nostalgia trip. And I finally have the platinum.

BildBildBildBild

And that’s Resi Requiem done. Had a blast playing it. But the more I think about it, the more I don’t think it reached its potential. With the pendulum swing to horror extremes, neither style quite satisfies. I’d rather something in the middle, elegant, sophisticated and subtle.
