Professional sports teams are civic institutions. Owning one gives the owner/group influence over local politics if the public/local governments lets them. I don't think we're seeing these right-leaning political figures buy into more liberal markets at stupid valuations for any other reason.

I am so bummed about professional sports right now. From right-wing ownership groups taking advantage of pump and dump capitalizim in the NBA to FIFA's straight up romantic relations with fascism, to the manufactured narratives being forced on the WNBA, to Bezos buying in to the EPL. THIS SUCKS.
