Things have been a little quiet from us of late, so here’s some of the highlights that have been keeping us busy!

Avocet sightings are coming in thick and fast at this time of year! Lime/Blue Red/Orange was originally ringed @nosterfieldnr.bsky.social in May 2014 Over its 12 years it’s regularly returned to the area in spring and was resighted again at the reserve on April 19th this year
Our starling RAS officially began on Sunday, with the first adult of the scheme receiving both a metal and colour ring! Please help us to monitor the survival of this already red-listed species by reporting any sightings
Avocet resighting news! Yellow flag F3, originally ringed at Marfield NR, N Yorks on 10/06/25 was resighted @wwtworldwide.bsky.social Slimbridge, Gloucs on 25/02/26, 280km south A previous report in December suggests this bird overwintered here Thanks to @ellaslinn.bsky.social for the report!
A fantastic day at Fountains Abbey this sunday for a live ringing demo! After a slow day for passerines, adding another two mute swans to our ongoing RAS was a nice way to end the day 🦢🦢 Thanks to all those that came along and to @nationaltrust.org.uk for having us!
We’ve made our overdue move over to BlueSky! Keep an eye out here, or on our website (linked on our profile) for all future updates from the group! On the subject of migration, please enjoy this fantastic male Blackbird from this winter’s ringing at Ripon Parks! @btobirds.bsky.social
