The European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) represents the trade unions in construction, wood, forestry, and building materials in Europe.

June 2026 was the second-warmest June ever recorded globally. In Western Europe, it was the hottest June on record. Climate change is here and workers are feeling its effects. Now the evidence is on the table 👇 #TooHotToWork #OSH

📣 New publication! We've just released our anticipated report on #HeatExposure at work 🥵 'Climate change and workers’ health: Protecting workers against heat and other climate-related hazards' by Marouane Laabbas-el-Guennouni (ETUI) and Andreas Flouris (University of Thessaly)

Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of the six workers who lost their lives yesterday in the fire at the OXY construction site on Place de Brouckère in central Brussels. We also wish a full recovery to those who were injured.

"They were sent home. We never saw them again." Aalborg University has documented how injured migrant construction workers can disappear from workplaces and accident statistics. EFBWW calls for a stronger European Labour Authority to strengthen labour intelligence and cross-border enforcement.

From Strasbourg: EU Inc. is the wrong answer for Europe. Construction is already one of Europe's most fraud-sensitive sectors, and when you open the door for more fraudulent letterbox companies, that's what you get. Don't build Europe on letterbox companies. #EUInc #28thRegime #WorkersRights

After more than 10 years, it's done 🎉 The European Parliament today approved mandatory prior notification for all postings in construction 🏗️ A major step forward for enforcement, stronger labour inspections and the protection of mobile construction workers! #SocialEurope #Construction

‼️"Europe cannot compete by weakening its social model; it must compete by strengthening it. Innovation and workers’ rights are not contradictory — they are mutually reinforcing, and a strong industrial future depends on both."‼️ bsky.app/profile/indu...

EU Inc Is a Deregulation Tool 🔨 in Disguise The @ec.europa.eu ’s optional “EU company” lets firms register anywhere and sidestep the national rules that protect workers. www.socialeurope.eu/eu-inc-is-a-...

A subcontractor creates a new company. The workers stay. The construction sites stay. Only the company name changes. A trade union investigation later uncovered more than €100,000 in unpaid wages. Labour exploitation thrives when responsibility is subcontracted away. #LimitSubcontracting

"Without effective rules, markets do not become more competitive. They become easier to abuse." Our latest Euractiv op-ed looks at excessive subcontracting, labour exploitation and why #PublicProcurement must reward responsible businesses over the lowest price. www.euractiv.com/opinion/how-...

How did construction become the Wild West? | Euractiv

Europe's upcoming revision of the Public Procurement Directives should address a growing problem in construction: excessive subcontracting that undermines workers, businesses and fair competition

Last night, the Commission's deregulation drive suffered a setback. Member States and the European Parliament sided with labour inspectorates in negotiations on an e-declarations portal for employers posting workers. Link to press release in comments 👇 With @etuc-ces.bsky.social

16,000 hours of unpaid overtime. 218 inspection proceedings. €1.9 million in fines. Camp Nou stadium, one of Europe's largest construction projects. 77 companies working on the same site. When responsibility is spread across dozens of companies, accountability disappear and workers are exploited.

Five construction workers died in Antwerp in 2021. Today, trade union representatives gathered to remember them. Workers deserve safe workplaces. The families deserve answers. The search for justice continues. Nicolae, Mihael, Carlos, Antonio and Cristiano have not been forgotten.

The revision of EU public procurement rules is an opportunity to move away from lowest-price procurement and towards a Europe that rewards quality jobs, fair competition and responsible companies #LimitSubcontracting No public money for exploitation. EFBWW policy brief in comments ⬇️

The problems arising from long subcontracting chains are increasingly under scrutiny. Together with EBC and MEPs Johan Danielsson and @liesbetsommen.bsky.social we take the debate inside the European Parliament on July 1 to discuss subcontracting and public procurement. Registration link 👇

Across Europe, the same conclusion is being reached. Spain, Belgium and Norway have all introduced measures limiting subcontracting chains in public construction projects. Public money should create quality jobs, not perfect conditions for labour crime and exploitation. #LimitSubcontracting

📆 Upcoming event: launch of a Model Directive on Occupational Heat Summer is on its way, but for many the season signifies dangerous working conditions more than sunny beach holidays

Construction is different. Mobile worksites. High labour mobility. Difficult enforcement. Fragmented supply chains. The proposed Construction Services Act does not address the realities of the construction sector. Trade unions and employers in joint statement ⬇️ #EU #Construction #LabourMobility

A conversation on a construction site can make the difference between knowing your rights and not knowing them. Yesterday, we joined @acvbievakbond.bsky.social Journée de chantier in Belgium, meeting workers directly at their workplaces. Workers build Europe. They deserve to know their rights.
