📣 New publication! We've just released our anticipated report on #HeatExposure at work 🥵 'Climate change and workers’ health: Protecting workers against heat and other climate-related hazards' by Marouane Laabbas-el-Guennouni (ETUI) and Andreas Flouris (University of Thessaly)

Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of the six workers who lost their lives yesterday in the fire at the OXY construction site on Place de Brouckère in central Brussels. We also wish a full recovery to those who were injured.

"They were sent home. We never saw them again." Aalborg University has documented how injured migrant construction workers can disappear from workplaces and accident statistics. EFBWW calls for a stronger European Labour Authority to strengthen labour intelligence and cross-border enforcement.

16,000 hours of unpaid overtime. 218 inspection proceedings. €1.9 million in fines. Camp Nou stadium, one of Europe's largest construction projects. 77 companies working on the same site. When responsibility is spread across dozens of companies, accountability disappear and workers are exploited.

Five construction workers died in Antwerp in 2021. Today, trade union representatives gathered to remember them. Workers deserve safe workplaces. The families deserve answers. The search for justice continues. Nicolae, Mihael, Carlos, Antonio and Cristiano have not been forgotten.

The problems arising from long subcontracting chains are increasingly under scrutiny. Together with EBC and MEPs Johan Danielsson and @liesbetsommen.bsky.social we take the debate inside the European Parliament on July 1 to discuss subcontracting and public procurement. Registration link 👇

Across Europe, the same conclusion is being reached. Spain, Belgium and Norway have all introduced measures limiting subcontracting chains in public construction projects. Public money should create quality jobs, not perfect conditions for labour crime and exploitation. #LimitSubcontracting
