You all make these demands and declarations every election cycle for yourselves. But every time your favorite loses the Black vote it becomes someone else's job to get the blacks in line for them. You never demand that your new hero put themselves in front of Black voters.
Folks are always talking about "the candidate has to give people a reason to vote for you" Yeah, the candidate. Bobby or Susie surrogate ain't the name on the ticket. They can talk you up from sun up till sun down but you still have to show up to those voters and convince them.
That work is yours and yours alone to do. You are the one running to represent them. Surrogates can only do so much because after the election they will not be the ones in that seat.
If you won a primary it does not become the job of your former opponent to convince people to vote for you. Your opponent may choose endorsement and may choose to encourage support but ultimately it is your responsibility to convince the voters who were skeptical of you to now support you.
