Ink drawing of a hedge maze.
Across the drawing is text, green on black banners, it reads:
CALL FOR PAPERS NEW LIVE.

I'm going spend the next 16 months writing up my PhD thesis on Mess & Scenographic Processes and I'd like to keep myself motivated and inspired by seeing as much messy theatre as possible. Please send me your tips! Spillages? Breakages? Loads of stuff? Trip hazards? Rubbish? Glitches? I love it all.

A photo of a messy stage production, lit blue, overlaid with large pink text that reads 'give me you messy theatre recommendations'.

The reports about changes to Arts Council England‘s eligibility for Project Grants is going to rock the industry. Should be made public in the next 2 weeks but crikey, it looks bleak for artists and independent organisations not in receipt of ACE regular funding.

Home with my 5yr old today, playing Lego. Vincent told me to stop singing along to Meatloaf, so I was lip-syncing along instead. He said "I can still hear you!" I said "no you can't, I'm not making any noise!" Vincent replied "I can hear you because you are singing so loud in your brain!"

Had to wake Vincent (my 5 year old) this morning to get ready for school. He said "is it morning?" and I replied "yes". He said "why did that happen so fast??" as he started crying. Universal feeling.

Passed my second (and final) 'Annual Progression' today. I am feeling chuffed and excited to crack on with my thesis writing. Send messy theatre recs my way, I'd like some more case studies.

Both my desks are filled with model-making stuff as I prep for a white card presentation on Monday. So, here is my current standing laptop station: (Keeping it far away from the super glue after yesterday's spillage)

Photo shows a vintage white cupboard with pale blue top in front of a wall covered in colourful pictures, prints and photos of chandeliers. It is a cluttered, busy space.
On the cupboard sits a picnic hamper with a laptop on top.

Lost loads of work time today as my little lad's school was closed due to the floods. Have embraced the day for what it was (less productive) And sometimes a speedy sketch can solve everything.

A chunky graphite stick (like a wax crayon but grey graphite) sits on a white piece of paper. Sketched on the paper are hanging drapes, the sense of a wooden panelled floor and a balcony behind.

I don't do resolutions but I do enjoy the feeling of hope that comes with the new year. I feel an inspiration in January that almost makes up for how I miss the Christmas tree lights on the dark mornings. Diving into projects & PhD, emailing my MP about all the crap, embracing cosy evenings & sleep.

Eleanor smiles into the camera. She is a white cis woman with short blonde hair. She wears sunglasses and a matching yellow knitted hat and snood. She is stood in a field and the bright winter sun is behind her causing light flare in the photograph.

When your child's school knows you are a theatre designer and asks you to decorate a Santa's grotto for the school Christmas party and you aren't sure what they are expecting from you but you've turned your Conservatory into a workshop and you wonder if you may have gotten carried away...

A bright conservatory is a mess of cardboard boxes and red, pink and green coloured wrapping paper. At the far end, in front of the window, stands a toppling stack of presents and next to it a half-finished one with the pole support structure visible, poking out the top.The two finished magic stack of colourful presents stand side by side. They look like they defy gravity. They reach the ceiling.

Ok folks. This list useful because you can: 1. Be added to it (by me - pop me a message) so people can find you. 2. See who is on the list and individually follow those accounts you'd like to. 3. And this is the BIG ONE. You can 'pin to home' to get a UK theatre people feed on your home page.

Here is a list of UK based or connected (as far as I know) theatre people. Movers, makers, agitators, shakers. If you would like to be on it comment below and I'll add you. I'm putting a bit of work into making it, because bye bye ex-birdy. bsky.app/profile/did:...
