Indie writer ✍️ #NoGenAI & atmospheric scientist 🌀 Author of MISSISSIPPI RIP CURRENT, an LGBT environmental-political comedy, and THE INHERITORS: A CLIMATE FABLE, a darkly satirical and scientifically accurate cli-fi www.eleanorthorne.net
I'm happy to announce that the #ebook edition of The Inheritors: A Climate Fable is back on #koboplus. It's also on Apple, Google, Bookshop, Thalia, and more (www.eleanorthorne.net/book/the-inh...). The timing is coincidental, but it's nice to 🖕 an egomaniacal idiot. 🍁 www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/...

Life can present unusual challenges to a MAHA-crazed, supplement-popping manosphere podcaster. At least, that's how this particular fictional one would see it. Others would say his challenges were entirely self-inflicted. And they're far bigger than puzzling out imagined sunscreen conspiracies.
Just to get this out there: My second novel is a political and environmental comedy involving the critically endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle, which nests on one of our barrier islands. The title is a metaphor throughout most of the book, but it becomes quite literal in the last chapter.
Elder Millennials, this one's for you. For us, I ought to say. There's definitely some autobiographical content in this. #indiewriter #mississippiwriter #lgbtfiction #environmentalfiction #kindlefreebook #kindlefreeebook www.amazon.com/dp/B0GG5XRN8P
If you read THE INHERITORS: A CLIMATE FABLE and didn't like how dark it was, MISSISSIPPI RIP CURRENT is far more optimistic. 🐢🌊 It's an F/F enviro novel. I also think it's far funnier than my first novel. It's a #kindlefreebook right now, so see if you agree, risk-free. www.amazon.com/dp/B0GG5XRN8P
Oof. You take some time off social media because you don't want to be distracted from #writing, and then life throws a figurative ballistic missile at you, so you contemplate STAYING away. Then when you do return, you've lost your sea legs. I am not ready to begin novel #3, so I'll be here a lot.
Not sure what genre feed this belongs in. My newly released second novel, MISSISSIPPI RIP CURRENT, is a Hiaasen-esque environmental comedy/adventure with a lesbian/sapphic relationship. 🏳️🌈💙📚 And it's currently a #FREE EBOOK on #Kindle. I'd love it if someone left stars! www.amazon.com/dp/B0GG5XRN8P
It's been a bit, hasn't it? I've taken a long break from most social media, because of personal reasons and to write my second novel. That novel is now finished and published! #indiewriter #environmentalfiction #lgbtfiction www.eleanorthorne.net/book/mississ... www.amazon.com/dp/B0GG5XRN8P

📚🖋️ Check out my mom's novels! She's not a novice; she's also won a literary magazine contest, but I'm thrilled to see these in print. They are available on KU and in paperback. Two Southern US literary novels: www.amazon.com/stores/SJ-Al... Her dystopian novella: www.amazon.com/Rain-Never-F...
@booksky.club 📚💙 After a matriarch's death, Maggie investigates family mysteries including washed-up bones and empty graves while pondering inheritance and the meaning of family.
I am at the point where Facebook has become my preferred social media outlet for interacting as a writer. It lets me post the essays that I want to write. Instagram is kind of okay, but it's image-centric. Threads is for short posts. Bluesky is too (and I have to use a VPN to get on it... shhhh 🤫).
We are all guilty. We all built this. I'm here, as you see. And I've curated my own subscriptions, like this one, that tell me what makes me feel vindicated. I'm guilty too. If you read THE INHERITORS and thought it was too grim, this sort of realization is where I was coming from when I wrote it.

If you're looking for something new to read and a near-future cli-fi social satire sounds like it might hit the spot, my novel THE INHERITORS is 50% off at Kindle and Kobo right now. Just $1.49 USD. 📚🪐| 📚🖋️ www.amazon.com/gp/product/B... www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/...
"I've got the data box." www.eleanorthorne.net/.../the-orig... The original, unaltered, scientifically valid US #Climate Assessments are now on my website... and I'm QUITE sure I'm not alone. So I should have said, "We've got the data box." There are more of us than just a few crew members.

The second is *exactly* the kind of pseudo-activism that drives me bananas, as an atmospheric scientist who is profoundly concerned and wants to see *real* solutions to go to zero. It's not what you, little Joe and Jane Citizen, are doing that's the problem. We can prove that with models.
Smart climate action: “I wonder what the biggest pollution sources are, and how easy it would be to lower them substantially?” Then doing it. Dumb climate action: “I’m going to pick on things I don’t like personally and complain about their emissions, even if they’re tiny.” Then do nothing.
According to an as-yet-unreleased memo, the Department of the Interior will now subject effectively all new solar and wind project approvals to political review. @jael.bsky.social has the details:
Internal Agency Memo Calls for Political Reviews of Solar, Wind Projects
The widely circulating document lists more than 68 activities newly subject to upper-level review.

🧵For my books, I have now tried several services. I compile my own ebooks, because I'm a LibreOffice/calibre/Sigil superuser, so this thread is about the printing services. I've got THE INHERITORS printing as a paperback from both draft2digital and KDP. It's identical and I own the ISBN, so I can.
Happy Bastille Day to all who observe! This year, I've certainly reflected on its significance.
Big announcement. On August 1, the HARDCOVER edition of THE INHERITORS will become available! Only $22.99 USD. It'll have a dust jacket, grayscale images to decorate the "new section" pages, more biographical info, a bit more hypercane info, and an EXCLUSIVE hardcover-only Afterword.
We got ourselves a website. And yes, I do mean "we." And not in the Gollum sense. At the moment, there is only one book in this publisher's catalog, by only one person, but that's going to change. Stay tuned! www.longshorerebelpress.com

Hey, meteorology Bluesky: For the past day and a half, many of you've called for BLOCKS of liberal accounts for "spreading misinformation." Insisted that the cuts made no difference. I.e., THAT THE NWS DIDN'T NEED THOSE VACANCIES FILLED. That is how I SAID it would be taken, and I was right.
Today would be an excellent day to grab a copy of my book. Why, because it's 50% off for the Smashwords Summer/Winter Sale, Prime Week, and Kobo, of course! What did you THINK I meant? 😈 Just thought some discounted satire might hit the spot. GR: 5⭐ / Amazon: 4.5⭐ books2read.com/thorne-inher...
Some rather angry thoughts on the Texas floods. And I'm angry at my own profession, quite frankly. It's great to defend colleagues' work. But when you dive in with "they did GREAT and the cuts didn't matter a bit," YOU ARE CONCEDING POINTS TO THE PEOPLE WHO WANT TO CUT NOAA. Why would you do that?
