For me the average vs best example is grapes. Average green grapes I get from budget supermarkets are often somewhat sour, but the best muscat grapes you can get in Japanese supermarkets are 2-3 times bigger and super sweet! Oh and they are often 10 times more expensive than average grapes…
Gourd@jaredsnyder.bsky.social · 6mo agoI'm sorry but I can't help myself: the best fruit discourse is poisoned by conflating "average one you get at the grocery store" with "best you've ever had.". The classic example is peach, the average grocery store peach is dogshit and the best you've ever had is a transcendent experience
