AI boosters always say things like "10x engineer" or "100x more productive" but for these things to be true, a 5 year videogame production cycle would have to take 6 months (10x) or less than 3 weeks for 100x. This strikes me as reflecting poorly on the intelligence of people who believe this.

As someone from Australia where this was already put in place - if you are stuck with Discord, just don't verify your age. You will lose some unimportant features and be able to use it as usual. I can't leave Discord because so much stuff is there, but I'm not handing them my ID.

As early as next month, Discord could enable their global age verification measures. #privacy #ageverification theprivacycloud.substack.com/p/discord-wi...

I straight up believe: 1. All Generative AI should be banned 2. All AI/Machine learning should be banned from responding in a conversational manner. They are tools and should give short, non-humanlike responses like a calculator 3. You should never seek or trust AI's advice on anything

I think people should be very, very careful when leaning ChatGPT or any bot for help navigating relationship issues or any other interpersonal conflict/crisis: futurism.com/chatgpt-marr... futurism.com/artificial-i...

Don't wanna single any one game out but I see this all the time - A Steam game description reads: "___ is a [genre name] but with a unique twist that will make you feel like a speedrunner." What is the unique twist? You're not building mystique here, you're trying to get me interested.

Last night while trying to get to sleep I thought up a good tweet. This is not that tweet because I no longer remember the tweet. This is just a tribute to the slightly above average tweet I was going to make.

Wish their movies were more like their games for sure. Playing Mario is surprising, delightful, fast paced, and challenging. A movie that kept throwing ideas at you with a sense of fun, wonder and momentum sounds great. I haven't bothered to watch either Mario movie because they sound boring.

Sorry to say that The Mario Galaxy Movie sucks. What I find so disheartening about it is that I think if Nintendo stuck to (the cinematic equivalent of) the principles that made its games so great, the films would be so much more interesting. Read my full review here: kotaku.com/super-mario-...

What I find so disheartening about this isn’t just that these films are empty products. It’s that in the world of game design, there are few developers I’d consider less likely to make games of the empty calorie variety than Nintendo. Shigeru Miyamoto is a producer on both the Bros. and Galaxy movies, and seems by all accounts to be heavily involved in their production. He’s also the genius whose creative vision drove the design of games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, games that challenged me and every other ‘80s kid who played them on the NES around the time they were released.

AI is always doing stuff everyone says they could do. "I could write a novel" but you didn't. you got a robot to do it for you so you could spend more time cleaning the house or whatever it is humans are good for Controversial opinion, but art is fun and robots should do the boring stuff

Glad to see new Overwatch announcements but I'm still boycotting Microsoft's gaming division with BDS. I won't be covering any Microsoft stuff, paying for it, or playing either, and I recommend anyone who wants to does the same.

This week I have seen two announcements on Steam from indie teams announcing they're shutting down and removing their games from sale at the end of January. Industry is doing great, thanks
