ONE DARK WINDOW x A RIVER ENCHANTED 🕯️ a deadly curse 🖤 a marriage of survival 🌿 a forest out for blood 🩸 a forgotten first bride 🌊 and a river that saw it all VOW YOUR HEART TO THE RIVER, a 90k adult gothic fantasy #OwnVoices chronic illness rep #QuestPit #Q #F #A #Gothic

moodboard featuring an image of Thomas and Ellen from Nosferatu, comp title books For the Wolf, A River Enchanted, One Dark Window, The Everlasting, and the TV show Nancy Drew, text “marriage of convenience? no, marriage of survival”, an image of Florence + The Machine’s album Ceremonials, and images of Nancy Drew and Anthony Bridgerton

Pitch that reads: Complete at 90k words with #OwnVoices chronic illness representation, VOW YOUR HEART TO THE RIVER is an adult gothic fantasy standalone that combines the mystery-solving marriage of convenience from A River Enchanted with the gothic atmosphere of One Dark Window.

Every year, a woman disappears in the forest. Every year, Irene’s ailing detective father fails to find them before another is taken. Desperate to save his reputation, Irene ventures into the forest to hunt for clues, finding a cursed king with an ultimatum: marry him or the forest will kill her.

Taken centuries back to a version of their kingdom frozen in time, Irene discovers that all of the missing women accepted King Peter’s deal and drowned in the river soon after. To make it home, she’ll have to convince Peter to break the curse’s cycle.

Yet the forest wants blood, and it won’t tolerate disobedience. History must repeat itself.

With the forest taking a life each night Irene remains alive, she and Peter hurry to unravel her visions of the forgotten first bride and unearth the story at the root of the curse. But when he starts to remember his real life in Irene’s time, she’ll have to determine why the curse chose him – and if she’s willing to sacrifice the man she’s falling in love with to survive.

A dark space fantasy aesthetic mood board with a collage of photos. Vertically down, from the first column:
1. A violet, light-tinged hole framing a violet sky
2. A faint silhouette of a woman beneath colors like the northern lights
3. Two hands reaching towards one another
4. A sci-fi inspired, dark uniform with a high collar
5. A grand stairwell, perhaps a futuristic religious site, with a single silhouette looking up
6. Two romantic silhouettes against a starry night sky
7. A lone figure with a backpack, standing amongst a shroud of sand-colored fog
8. A hand covered in glitter
9. A silhouette standing in front of a blue-lit circular tunnel entrance
10. A black woman with glitter coating her shoulder, just the bottom half of her face is visible, lips tilted slightly up in a smile
11. A black woman screaming
12. A stream of light breaking through dark clouds
13. An eye turned to show only the whites
14. Figures in robes seemingly suspended in mid-air
15. A figure on a black, sleek futuristic looking motorcycle

None of the images are my own. They are all sourced from Pinterest

Left to right.

Top row: A foggy city with a spire in the background. The hands of a clock approaching 12. Smoke from an explosive in a building.

Middle row: A man in a waistcoat pointing at something. “Tick… Tock…” A man in a waistcoat sitting down.

Bottom row: Silver coins covered in blood. A group of people standing inside a clock tower. Rain on a cobblestone street.

Run. What a powerful instinct.
Emma Bridge had wanted nothing more than to be with her two siblings in a home that felt safe, but those wishes never came true. With nothing left to lose, Emma runs away from the spotlight of the Hills to a small town across the country, but this new home is anything but the safety she’d been after.

The weight of the world has fallen on her shoulders, and she can’t carry it alone. But with her old name in every police station and her new name on every tongue in town, she’s not sure who she can trust to help carry the burden.

What we know:
-Runaway in Hiding
-Fake Identity (turned real identity)
-Mental Health Rep
-Genderfluid and Pan Rep
-Found Family
-90s Small-Town Nostalgia
At the bottom, the name Emma Bridge is crossed out and replaced with Peyton Freys
