Fidlock afficionado. Probably to the left of you. Team Rationality. Team Everyone Lives. Stop fighting other people's wars against uninvolved bystanders. Stay on your side of freedom, and I'll stay on mine.

Consider any news carefully. Question the motivations behind every alleged action. Why would someone do that? Also consider the messenger's motivations. Why would someone tell something this way? Keep your critical thinking running, or you'll end up supporting your own murder.

Ich habe aufgehört anzunehmen, dass Menschen dumm wären, nur weil sie meine Weltsicht nicht teilen. Sie wissen genau, was sie tun. Wie intelligent sie sind ist eine komplett andere Sache.

@ianhamilton.net My two cents on VR, XR, and viable futures. The problem is no longer the hardware or platform side. That's solved, as far as most end users are concerned. The problem is viable use cases. What kind of usage could possibly be so beneficial that they lead to mass adoption?

The kind of surveillance drones used to take footage like that are fragile and short range, and need to return. The places struck are high profile, now crawling with all sorts of Russian abwehr. Releasing stuff now would hurt the Ukrainian spy network. At least that's my take.

*Well, I totally get it about deliberate fog-of-war, but the Ukrainians are not kidding about crippling or even annihilating the Russian fossil-fuel business *They must have methods to judge their own success; is the petrochemical plant ruined, or is it not *If they know, why not everybody

Part of this is the distance, like when space operas discuss whole worlds, whole solar systems and galactic sectors. Our mind just downscales stuff the further away it is. Another part might be layered information control in Russia, but I feel that the fog of war is deliberate on both sides.

*It's very smoke-and-mirrors, it's like people are idly discussing Bitcoin instead of huge, continental pipelines and gigantic, physically existent chemical-fractionation complexes that are made of towering metal cylinders and as big as suburbs
