No. Nyet. Nein. Non. Nicht. Nee. No with an Italian accent. And for the avoidance of any doubt: ABSOLUTELY THE EFF NOT.
Seriously though, would you read an AI generated novel or story knowing it was AI? If it was part of a franchise you loved? Was in your favourite genre? A sequel ‘approved’ by the estate if the original author?
Oh dear. There's a new obsession at Cooper Towers: Murdoku. I fear very few words are getting written today.
I've said it elsewhere but here's my two penneth. I understand the impulse to find a way to navigate between the difference voices on AI and develop an accommodation but it's wrong headed and misguided because we understand clearly what generative AI is built upon and what the social aims are of
In other news, today brought some new teas from @birdandblendtea.bsky.social and MrC, the non-teadrinker of the house, has declared he loves the smell of the Hazelnut Praline and wants to try it.
Oh no. No, no, no and no. There can be no "ethical" use of AI in the creative industries, when the AI has been trained on stolen creative output. You're supposed to be representing authors, ffs, not capitulating to the slop machine. Rage, rage against the dying of the light, you cowards.
the fundamental flaw with all iterations of this nonsense is the sort of man who looks for "more masculine" reading material is also the exact man who last read a book in high school and that was 22 years ago
"If more books were published by men with explicitly masculine themes, would there actually be a wider male readership?" This is very much in the Platnerian mode that presumes all men are only attracted to content by, for, and possibly about Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor. jacobin.com/2026/10/lone...

I have summited Mount Administrivia a.k.a prepped all my documents for my company year end and now I need a really big cup of tea. And a biscuit. I've earned it.
Oh dear. I just wrote the opening lines of a new thing, a not-so-Sekrit Projekt that regular followers of this account will probably be able to guess. Whoops. #AmWriting
MrC, looking at crabapple tree in the garden: "Seems a shame to let all that fruit go to waste, we should do something with them." Me: "I've got a recipe for crabapple jelly here." This is what he just brought me. I only have 12 jars and 2kg sugar.
Another day, another "book marketing professional" in my inbox touting for business. I know it's AI-generated tosh to butter me up but dang if it doesn't make my books sound really, really good!😆
Don't get me wrong, I like it when a book makes me cry. It shows the author did a good job creating characters I empathise with. But three times? In a book in which didn't expect to get smacked in the feels? That's just mean.
Fifty bloody quid to file an annual Confirmation Statement for my small business. FIFTY. QUID. So I can fill an online form in under five minutes. I am aghast.
UK authors affected by the #AnthropicCopyrightSettlement : we have to fill in a W-8BEN form to certify our non-US-resident/non-US-taxpayer status & then upload it to the portal, is that right? I *think* I know what I'm doing but I'm juggling this with my company year-end and my brain is tired.
Since I posted that, I've made dinner, eaten dinner, and pruned approx 500 words (not necessarily in that order). Progress! #SmallMovesEllie #AmWriting
I have two chapters together that run far too long so they need tightening up, and somehow I've ended up with three chapters and an extra 2.5k words. How does that even work? #AmWriting #TheDragonHouse

Oo, I am here for an excellent ghost cat!
Did you know that there is another standalone novel in the same universe as @rainewilson.bsky.social 's @clarkeaward.bsky.social nominated THE SALT ORACLE? Meet WE ARE ALL GHOSTS IN THE FOREST, a genre-bending science fantasy with a really excellent ghost cat. Buy geni.us/weallghostsPB
Not gonna lie, everyone talking about their Anthropic Settlement communications and the problems they're having therewith is giving me pre-emptive anxiety - I'm still waiting to hear :( *refreshes inbox for 19th time*
The Moon on the Water, by Nina Warner Hooke, famously read by Bernard Cribbins on Jackanory (old UK TV show to get kids into reading). First proper fantasy book, I think; first book to break my heart.
In honor of Dolly and her commitment to getting books to kids, tell me about a book you read as a child that changed your life. I’ll start: so many, but tonight maybe I’ll say A WRINKLE IN TIME, a book that taught me anger wasn’t wrong.
Well, I didn't manage to kill it, but the chapter's back is broken, so . . . yay? #AmWriting #TheDragonHouse
Suspense is not created by your audience not knowing what happens next. It's created by your audience CARING what happens next.
www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/h... I really love this — the notion that it's about feelings, not plot twists. I wish more stories took this approach. Yes, even thrillers. Twists are rarely as surprising as the choices people make from the heart.
Back to the word mines. This chapter dies tonight. #AmWriting #TheDragonHouse
again i am just not that interested in debating whether human rights should theoretically extend to robots and ai when we currently don't even extend them to all humans
Happy #DogsAtPollingStations Day to all who celebrate!
It's 19 months since Mum died. We've just found out the solicitors have effed up the execution of her very straightforward will. What do you call it when you go right the way through "incensed" and come out the other side, again?
I've just opened a letter with a mammogram appointment, to an impeccably-timed rumble of thunder. *chef's kiss*
