Thinking about Isolde in the beginning of Ishgard. Those first nights when she’s so utterly, totally alone with not even a memento of Thancred’s to hold onto. He had always wanted to get her something — but thought it would be too silly. Too valid or shallow. He’s no good at this! She’s different
She picked out a pretty dress, it’s a celebration! She hopes she looks nice! She’s in love and they’ve lived — Thancred breaks things off around people so he wont be a coward. If she cries in private he’ll fold immediately. So he does it in passing. He does it when she’s smiling and laughing
