State Representative - Michigan's 77th District Lansing, DeWitt & Grand Ledge
This year’s state budget is far from perfect, but we made sure that the critical programs and services Michiganders rely on were included.
Generations of Black families have shaped our communities and strengthened our economy. Freedom Day is a time to reflect on the progress made, to review lessons learned and to recommit to the pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice. Happy Juneteenth!
Today, June 11th, I reintroduced The Renters’ Bill of Rights, a comprehensive set of reforms designed to strengthen housing stability, promote safe and habitable housing, and ensure that renters are treated with dignity and fairness.
I voted NO on House Bills 4466-4468, because this bill package poses a major health risk to thousands of Michigan youth. If passed, this bill would effectively criminalize gender-affirming care (GAC), a well established form of evidence-based medical care which has saved countless lives.
Today, I introduced HB 5951 to limit the use of chemical weapons and kinetic energy projectiles against protestors. Michiganders have a constitutional right to peacefully assemble and make their voices heard. #MiLeg
Federal law already protects consumers from extra loud commercials on cable and broadcast television, but those protections have not kept pace with the shift to streaming. HB 5924 brings those same protections to streaming services, where most people watch today.
Republicans have bills to roll back Michigan’s clean energy standards, framing it as “reliability” and “affordability.” But rolling back clean energy doesn’t lower costs, it locks Michigan into more expensive fossil fuels, weakens our energy independence and sets us up for higher bills long-term.
Out-of-touch House Republicans have mishandled the economy, ignoring devastating tariffs, skyrocketing gas prices, and rising inflation. Now they want to slash funding to critical programs and services, making it even harder for you to get by.
I can’t believe March is almost over! Thank you to Mid-Michigan Leadership Academy, Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School, and Post Oak Academy for having me read this week. 🧑🏼🏫
March is Reading Month Week 3! Thank you to Willow Elementary and Gier Park Elementary for having me. 📙🐛
Eid is a time of joy, gratitude, and togetherness, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. It is a day when families come together, homes are filled with delicious food, and hearts are filled with warmth and generosity.
It’s my favorite time of year…March is Reading Month! We are off to a great start this year. Thank you to Cumberland Elementary, Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School, and the Human Rights Campaign/Salus Center for hosting me!
As February ends and March begins, I would like to encourage us all to take a moment and reflect. We must continue to honor the past and present achievements of Black Americans as American History, while simultaneously reaffirming our commitment to Justice, Equity and Opportunity for All.
The Affordable Water Now package (House Bills 4555, 5170–5173) offers real, lasting change: a fair billing structure, protections for vulnerable households, and the certainty that basic needs won’t be compromised when times get tough. www.detroitnews.com/story/opinio...
Opinion: Bills could make water affordable for all Michiganians
Michigan lawmakers propose the Affordable Water Now package to fix rising water costs, offering income-based billing and shutoff protection.

Today, @lauriepohutsky.bsky.social and I, are introducing the SAFER Act, because Michigan can and should protect students and school staff from harassment.
Today, I introduced HBs 5508-5509 aimed at protecting survivors of sexual violence and harassment in the workplace. The stories of survivors are theirs to share. #MiLeg

This is not just unprofessional, it is irresponsible and dangerous. POAM, the official organization that serves to represent police officers statewide, should not be spreading this kind of propaganda. What our communities need is safety and justice.
As we face adversity, let’s remember and embrace the strength Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. exemplified. Arrested, assaulted and threatened, he never wavered in his pursuit of justice.
