Research Culture Manager for University of Leeds. Former literature and visual cultures academic. Disabled/queer. If you want, you can buy my book: https://bit.ly/48Imeyz I have a dog now so I don't need a personality 🐶 Views my own, unfortunately.

1/3 Refugee Week is a moment to reflect on the role universities play in building cultures of welcome and belonging. At Leeds our University of Sanctuary status recognises ongoing work to support students and academics forced to flee, and the vital perspectives they bring to research + scholarship.

Tell you what, the crowd went WILD with Soo's reaction to getting this award. I didn't get good photos because I was ALSO losing my mind. Incredible stage presence. It's @soofougere.bsky.social 's world and we just live in it.

We're overjoyed that our very own @soofougere.bsky.social was given "highly commended" for her work on our Research EDI funding initiative at last night's ARMA awards in the Research Culture in Research Management category. Soo says she was "just doing her job", but we disagree - she's exceptional!

Breaking the “only good news” trend: I’ve spent 2 weeks in and out of hospitals with a treatment‑resistant migraine. I've lived with migraine my entire life, but nothing like this. Grateful for an amazing support network and colleagues while I come through this patch and wait to see my neurologist.

Turns out "my husband's lifelong friend" is also "leading fascinating work in our field." Who knew? 😄 I wasn't behind the mic, but I thoroughly recommend this episode from @dremilygoodall.bsky.social with @jdwilko.bsky.social

🆕 #ResearchCultureUncovered episode. How much can we trust the published evidence? From paper mills to AI generated studies, Dr Emily Goodall @dremilygoodall.bsky.social & Dr Jack Wilkinson @jdwilko.bsky.social unpack the rise of problematic research & what we can do about it.

I had a difficult decision to make over the weekend. I am so incredibly proud of myself for focusing on my values and intentions rather than what capitalism tells me I should do. A dear friend put it: we're conditioned to go through every open door, and not to ask what the room the other side holds.

Was moved/overjoyed/inspired to talk to @elainagmamaril.bsky.social about disability, podcasting, and who gets to determine what constitutes knowledge. I am even recommending this to my non-RC friends and colleagues as an episode on how to be an excellent human being.

New #ResearchCultureUncovered episode available: Dr Élaina Gauthier‑Mamaril @elainagmamaril.bsky.social on podcasting as research method, disability justice and counter‑archives. Rigour with care, access by design, community over gatekeeping.

Sad/relieved to say that we've actually fixed research culture and therefore no longer need to have a podcast or a job or ethics committees or anything! Woohoo! #AprilFools

🆕 New #ResearchCultureUncovered podcast episode available now! Dr Taryn Bell @tarynbell.bsky.social and Dr Emily Ennis @emilyennis.bsky.social discuss how they solved research culture for good. Want to hear the solutions to all of your research culture problems?

Very proud to be co-organising this. Research Culture work can sometimes feel both political and isolating. We're hopeful this workshop will feel reparative, collaborative, and help us uncover what RC work can learn from other social and political movements. We'd love to see you there ✊

🆕New #ResearchCultureUncovered podcast episode! Dr Emily Ennis @emilyennis.bsky.social chats with Dr Amy Mayfield @luresearchculture.bsky.social and Dr Nicola Simcock about how maturity frameworks turn good intentions into real research culture change.

Energising day at the N8 Research Culture and Environment group away day in Durham today. Somehow managed to drag my arthritic body up all the hills, which paid dividends for a lovely meander to the station along the river on the way back. Watch this space for some emerging N8 RCE insights!!

I am truly entering my podcast era 🎙 Thanks so much to @elainagmamaril.bsky.social for having me and letting me talk about the place of disability in research culture (amongst many other things!).

When people ask what my job is, I often say 'Wikipedia' but in reality it's more wide-ranging now than ever: here's a little blog post about what Topics for Impact could look like in 2026 and what I've been up to lately. wikimedia.org.uk/2025/12/topi... See you next year!

On this final full week before Christmas, and just in time for the end of #DisabilityHistoryMonth, why not read my interview with Armineh and Liz on how ableism presents itself in the HE sector, and how we've collectively and individually navigated it as disabled people.

This Disability Awareness Month we ask: What if research spaces were truly designed for all? How do we dismantle systems built for an “ideal” body & mind? @emilyennis.bsky.social explores these questions with @drasoorenian.bsky.social & Liz Dew from the Wellcome Anti-Ableist Research Culture project
