If Mya isn’t on the ground then I’m blaming Thom. If we’re lucky he’s “fixing” a machine. He might be at the stage where that machine looks more broken than it was at the beginning, but give him time. He usually gets everything back where it should be.

Honestly, the side characters. They took over in ways I wasn’t expecting when I started writing. I love my main character, and the plot should center around her. But I love my side characters. #pitchdis

I have 4 books I would say are fully finished. Three of those I self published without having a clue what I was doing. I’m currently querying the 4th. I have a completed 1st draft of my next book, but it needs a lot of edits. #pitchdis

Mya doesn’t want to write her memoir. She wants to write about the patients she lost. She still blames herself for their deaths. Telling their stories feels more important than telling her own. Her own heroism would be little more than a footnote explaining how they died.

For Mya it very much depends who it’s coming from. She can identify competent people and will take their criticism easily. From others, she’ll put up a fight or flat out ignore them. She doesn’t have time for their shit.

Mya would be annoyed if I said Dexterity was her lowest, but when the earthquakes hit, she’s the one who keeps needing stitches. Wisdom and Intelligence are strengths. Charisma isn’t too far behind. She doesn’t need Strength, she has Robert. And she has a gas mask for Constitution.

As a fellow teacher, and history nerd, people have used art to cope with and process every tragedy, conflict, war, or disaster. Art is human. Humans need art. We may try to forget or pretend we don’t, but that tends to lead to cruelty. Some historians mark humanity as when we started making art.

Insurance companies hate Mya. A big part of her job is finding ways around them to try and help her patients. There are some smugglers who find her annoying. And I’d like to think the corporate leadership of the hospital isn’t always her biggest fan.

I have a few that are partially finished. There’s the speculative murder mystery that proved mystery is not my genre. And the fantasy with multiple timelines I still want to finish, but will basically require three full stories and plots with a few very long lived characters. And magical tigers.

Usually reading. Sometimes sleeping. Or my guilty pleasure, mindless gaming. That lets my mind go anywhere but the hellscape of the news. The big thing is to avoid the news. That causes spirals, not creativity.
