@dddavi.bsky.social's lab took the 21 million images that led to the connectome of a fruit fly brain. Now he plans to use a $19 million grant to apply “this high-throughput flashlight across all areas of biology.” Read our interview with Bock: bit.ly/4B9RiFp By @callimcflurry.bsky.social

Inside a $19 million effort to expand connectome technology

Davi Bock’s lab took 21 million images for the fruit fly connectome. Now he wants to apply “this high-throughput flashlight” across biology.

I fear that placing too much emphasis on a specific interpretation of dimensionality, or treating dimensionality as an end-all quantification of some aspect of neural computation, may lead us down the wrong path, writes @mattperich.bsky.social. #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/neural-dynam...

Dimensionality—neuroscience’s red herring?

Placing too much emphasis on a specific interpretation of dimensionality may lead neuroscience down the wrong path.

I enjoyed writing this piece for The Transmitter. AI is a seismic change for science. What we make of it is up to us, but it’s a decision we can only make collectively. I hope more labs, and the field at large, will engage in finding a shared view of how we want to use AI.

With agentic AI’s rapid infiltration into science, researchers need to develop AI use policies and practices, writes @nicoschuck.bsky.social. #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/artificial-i...

let me phrase this differently: trainees: what papers did your advisors hand to you to read before starting your project? PIs: what papers do you share with your trainees?

dear #neuroskyence -- as some of you know i write a column over at @thetransmitter.bsky.social called "how to teach" which breaks down ~recent but seminal neuro papers for educators and self-guided learners and i'd love your input on what papers to cover! www.thetransmitter.org/how-to-teach...

How to teach this paper

This column by Ashley Juavinett guides educators and self-learners through recent seminal neuroscience papers.

In their essay, ALBA Network team members Keerthana Iyer, Arish Rakshasa-Loots, Ana Silva and Violetta Zujovic argue that to improve global neuroscience participation the field must embrace a more holistic definition of underrepresentation. #neuroskyence

Redefining underrepresentation in global neuroscience

Shifting the focus of equity initiatives from identity categories to structural barriers can reveal overlooked challenges and increase global support.

AI may soon enable researchers to generate high-quality science at a previously unimaginable speed. The effects for researchers will be as disruptive as industrial mass production was for artisan manufacturers, writes @kenneth-harris.bsky.social. #neuroskyence www.thetransmitter.org/artificial-i...
