I don't understand why some very popular software is not both good and open source. Maybe the private plugin market is just so thick now that no one has an incentive to change the status quo. There should be a good free Davinci Resolve color grading competitor. There should be a good free capcut.

Using one of those local whisper flow alternatives and really liking it. Super uncomfortable with the cloud transcription options. Local ones are a bit worse, but not meaningfully. Using OpenWhispr with the local-only NVIDIA model.

It feels obvious since that's kind of why they exist, but LLMs are awesome for language learning. A missing piece for me is getting ChatGPT or Gemini level voice chat offline. There are dozens of ollama clients for the non-multi-modal LLMs. Would be awesome to get this for voice.
