This is a bit of a hidden gem of a book, sold as YA but doesn't read like the typical YA It's hauntingly beautiful and highlights how far we've come since the AIDS crisis bit that there's still room to improve as a society and how important it is to live #BookSky

I saved my last book from the women's prize list for June and Pride (only queer book on the list) I think for my choice it's between Kingfisher or The Mercy Step for the win, but I'm convinced Flashlight will take it Anyways, excited to see who wins and the live event tomorrow! #BookSky

It's only my second book from the shortlist, but for me The Mercy Step will take some beating for the women's prize I'm putting it up there with Shuggie Bain, and it brilliantly explores a traumatic childhood through the eyes of a little girl who loves to read #BookSky
