The next World Cup will probably be expanded to 64 teams. If any small nations need players, just know that I am willing and able. Additionally, I have semi-professional experience: I played for my high school team and was labelled as 'pretty good, if apathetic'.

I've learned that the VC of my alma mater, University of York, is leaving for greener pastures down south. He leaves behind massive debt, a literal sinking campus, hundreds of disgruntled staff with increasing workloads, and a massive hole in the ground. Good luck, Southampton.

Friendly warning for research academics out there: Web of Science, Ebsco, ProQuest, and other databases now use AI search functions instead of keywords/Boolean search strings. This means that any search string you used before they incorporated AI is meaningless. You get 100x irrelevant results.

I loved Rental Family. Brendan Fraser nails the kind, lonely, yet vulnerable role with quiet aplomb and charm. The movie itself excels through a calm and personal narrative, weaving in how each of the characters ties into the idea that personal connection can be sold, but it must be genuine.

Bone Temple was exemplary. Brutal and beautiful simultaneously. It's hard to convey how much the film sticks with you after without giving too much away, but it is the perfect presentation of how thematic parallels can be written. It is both intimate and grand. Give it a look.

On the train, I overheard a man mention his friends were 'writing' ebooks using AI and making a profit off them. While crap literature has been a feature of the ebook world, it involved an element of human creativity. AI-generated stories excise the soul of a story.
