In exactly a week, the Inglorious Twelfth begins. It's the start of grouse-shooting season, when hundreds of thousands of red grouse are shot down for sport. Moorlands have been burned and predators killed to boost grouse numbers, all so a few can shoot them for kicks.
Bill Oddie was a much loved wildlife presenter and birder. A passionate conservationist, he spoke out against grouse shooting, the badger cull and other cruelties. He campaigned for the red grouse to be made Britain's national bird, to protect the bird from the 'wealthy, dishonest, cruel' people.
The bird shooting industry doesn't want you to see scenes like this. Found at Cambrian Birds’ hatchery this little life stood no chance of surviving. Millions of birds are factory farmed every year in the uk for paying clients to shoot out of the sky for fun.
Our investigator heard faint cheeping from a skip piled with broken eggshells at a commercial pheasant farm. The chick was rescued but sadly died. A tiny life treated as disposable by an industry that breeds tens of millions of birds to be shot for ‘sport’

The bird shooting industry hates us right now. Which is good. It means we're doing something right. They hate the fact their industry is being exposed to millions of people.
The bird shooting industry is a disgrace and has no place in this or any other century. We are determined to end it. It won’t be easy, but the same was said when a ban on whaling was proposed in the 1960s, and when hunt sabs and empathetic politicians drove forward the Hunting Act.
