Endless Window is on indefinite hiatus with immediate effect. Refunds will be issued for the affected shows – the Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan show promoted by Wandering Oak will be unaffected. A huge thank you to everyone who has played, worked or attended an Endless Window event.

Endless Window is on indefinite hiatus with immediate effect. Refunds will be issued for the affected shows – the Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan show promoted by Wandering Oak will be unaffected. The last twelve months have seen a dramatic fall in attendance and advance sales for almost all of our events (in this time, only one has broken even) and despite best efforts the situation has continued to deteriorate. I am now in a position where I cannot promote or host shows at the standard that is desired or required, and as such it would be irresponsible to proceed any further and cause more disappointment. I am hugely grateful to everyone who has played, worked or attended an Endless Window event in the last decade. I have tried to keep a flag flying for the strange, the surprising and the hard to categorise in the Newcastle music scene (you can be the judge of how successful it was or wasn’t.) I’m aware what I’ve promoted hasn’t always been the easiest sell, but seeing people willing to take the plunge on ideas or sounds they hadn’t encountered before was always the greatest joy in doing this. I would like to say a particular thank you to everyone at The Cumberland Arms, who have all been consistently supportive and helpful and have made it a venue I’ve been proud to call home. Even if I’m not running nights there now, I’m sure I’ll be popping up at one of Newcastle’s crown jewels here and there. It feels increasingly difficult to run safe and accountable events amidst a culture of silence and omerta. I will always want to encourage artists, venues and promoters to take risks and proceed with open minds, but I would also urge people to consider who and where they work with, and how they align with the values they would want to uphold. Right now, it feels sad and frustrating, but I know the great memories, wonderful people and incredible artistry I have been lucky to be involved with will outlive those emotions.

My favorite thing about Mike Love is that he has been an ardent practitioner transcendental meditation for over half a century, leading one to wonder either a) TM does not meaningfully work or b) TM does work and history would be unprepared for what kind of asshole Love would be without it.

Now listening: The Beach Boys - The Smile Sessions. You can wonder at the path music might have taken had Brian been able to complete his vision in 1967: even more, you can be awestruck by the power of what he did achieve.

I'll never get over how the best line in all of noir – "I've got eight slugs in me. One's lead, and the rest are bourbon" – doesn't come from Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett, but Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin dressed as a noir detective, saying "Yeah. That's me, Tracer Bullet. I've got eight slugs in me. One's lead, and the rest are bourbon. The drink packs a wallop, and I pack a revolver. I'm a private eye."
