On Aug. 1, an ambulance transported Edwin Jeovanny Lopez Cornejo of Plainfield, NJ from ICE Custody in Delaney Hall to a hospital. The hospital called his mum Maria Cornejo to report that Edwin had arrived deceased and asked her to identify him.

We paid three $30,000 bonds to secure people's release from ICE Detention. Until immigration detention ends, communities will continue stepping in where the system fails. It took as many as three organizations to gather enough money to pay these bonds.

A woman traveling home to New York City was detained by ICE at an airport on the west coast because of an expired visa overstay. Envision Freedom Fund has now received a bond request to help secure her release. Her case is not an isolated incident.

As we come to the end of July we thought to share with you the total number of people we've released from ICE detention this month, and so far this year: 💛41 people💛 this month alone, and 303 people released in 2026 (YTD) so far.

Since last year, thousands of immigrants have been held in mandatory detention across the U.S. with no pathway out, a clear violation of due process. This ruling is a resounding "no" to the question of whether the gvmt can indefinitely imprison someone without justification.

As we head into the 4th of July weekend, we've paid bonds to free 9 of our neighbors from cages, leveraging $161,000 to bring them back home. One bond we paid (in collaboration with a partner and the family) was $50,000. While our neighbors remain detained, there is no celebrating freedom.

During a recent Envision Freedom Fund mental health support meeting, participants spoke about the emotional toll of living under constant surveillance. They described feeling watched, restricted, and unable to fully move forward even after leaving detention.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 vote to uphold birthright citizenship. This is a meaningful victory that reinforces something we already know: the U.S. is a country of immigrants (by choice, by violence, by forced hand, by the human desire for safety and opportunity).

There's a new shift in ICE release practices.  When A.J., whom Envision helped secure release from detention in May, rushed to the hospital for the birth of his child on the same day he was released, his ankle monitor created stressful delays at hospital security.

We had to deliver heartbreaking news to a family seeking help to bring their loved one home that the immigration bond order they received was fraudulent. We're sharing this fake bond order so community members can learn warning signs and protect themselves from similar scams.

We are proud to share that we freed 10 of our neighbors this week from ICE detention, bringing us to 39 people freed this month and 258 (!!!) people freed in 2026. These are more than numbers. Every person freed is a universe — a whole person, a vital part of their community.
