2. Modernized rules for how finance engages with climate change are overdue. The admission that shareholder advocacy could never do enough should prompt policymakers and regulators to get going. Again, sharper tool needed.

I shared a couple of thoughts on this: 1. Shareholder advocacy based on "investor rights" raises questions. Why do companies' owners dictate the pace of climate action? Climate change is societal and environmental damage. Policy and regulation should mediate what is socially needed. Policy needed.

A leading Canadian climate organization deliberately shuttered this week!! The shareholder advocacy group I4PC wanted shareholders to fight for climate progress in companies, however recognized that sharper tools are needed - climate policy and regulation. www.sustainableviews.com/climate-shar...

3. Commitments do not always match delivery: The UK and Canada both initially committed to more policies than delivered, sometimes entirely different ones. Some jurisdictions took a more cohesively strategic approach to implementation (like Australia), and others more fragmented (like Canada).

What is Premier Smith's motivation for such heavy-handed, anti-industry, anti-investment policies? ATCO is also one of Canada's largest commercial and residential gas providers, so it doesn't make sense that the Premier is deaf to their concerns. What's the story here? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

#MEDIA: Canada’s updated methane rules fall short. Methane is 80x more potent than CO₂ in the near term, and companies already say near-zero by 2030 is possible. Delays to 2028+ and weaker standards risk real climate progress. Read more: environmentaldefence.ca/2025/12/16/s...
